Aside from their elite players, Coleman should be the last player Tampa moves. He can do everything and is at an incredible price. They won't move him, it's better to give up picks.

Every team is playing hardball with Tampa they are pretty desperate for cap space and have several players on nmc and ntc contracts

considering killorn is far from a cap dump, and smith IS a cap dump, zero chance tampa ever considers this trade

Call me an optimist but i have a feeling Lankinen surprises and opens peoples eyes . He was amazing at the World championships last year (goalie of the tournament ) . And played really well before getting injured in Rockford last year .

Really look at the situation the are in first . They are over the cap by 3 million and they need another 6 to 9 million depending on who you listen to to resign Cirelli and Cernak so where are the going to get the cap space . Ten of there players have nmc or ntc contracts . Every team is playing hardball with Tampa they are pretty desperate for cap space and have several players on nmc and ntc contracts

Even with the trade, (which would never happen BTW), this isn't a playoff team with that goaltending.

That tandem is barely AHL quality.

Killorn isn't a pure cap dump, and Coleman is far from it. I'd think Coleman could be on the table if the return is large enough to make up for compensating someone to take Johnson. Probably not enough here for Tampa to let Coleman go. Killorn for a pick and Smith (if he's on LTIR for his contract, IDK his situation) could be a possibility.

Do not forget that if Tampa trades two players to create the cap space they need that is two more roster spots to fill so they can not take back salary unless its league minimum or retained salary contracts and picks .

There are 4 years left on Johnsons contract at 5 mil per thats why no team claimed him when tampa put him on waivers

Which is why I said Coleman only goes if he can secure the assets needed to pay for paying someone else to take Johnson. It won't happen, so Coleman likely goes nowhere.

Teams will take killorn without having tampa pay COLEMAN to take him. I agree Tampa won’t get a fair value for him, but they definitely won’t have to pay to move him. Look at Schmidt

Again all the big contracts that get them the ten plus million in cap space they need have no trade or no movement clauses ! So please explain to me are they trading Kucherov or Stamkos , POINT , Palat , Hedman or Macdonagh because the math is very simple . Its either that or they trade away Cirelli and Cernak . And then they need to to still dump 3 miilion that they are over the cap . And still sign 3 players at league minimum 3 x 750000 which at puts them over the cap by 2.3 million again . so like i said they are screwed and every GM that has cap space is waiting to screw them over and lowball them . The math is very simple and clear .

it was actually a 3rd round pick, and exactly. Killorn is a top 6 winger on a decent contract. They wont get fair value, but they definitely wont have to pay to move him. everyone in the comments disagrees with this post. take the hint

My mistake on the 3rd rounder fine . Kilorn has a limited no trade ( 16 teams ) the only other high salary players who do not have NMC or NTC clauses are , POINT , SERGACHEV AND VASILEVSKY ( would you rather trade one of them for a **** return ) . Trading Kilorn letting Cirelli and Cernak leave for pics do not make them cap compliant . Get the HINT ???? Its not enough , math is math !!

12 teams are at or over the cap 5 other teams who are having financial problems will not be spending to the cap . The reason there are no trades right now is because the 12 teams that have cap space still have to sign there own players . The rest of the Gm"s waiting for training camps to start in two weeks ( supposedly ) so that the 10 teams that are over the cap have no choice but to dump players ( lowball ) . This is also why teams have not signed guys like HOFFMAN , HAMONIC , VATANEN , GRANLUND , DUCLAIR they are waiting for the salary dumps so they can squeeze the over the cap teams and bring down the price on these guys aswell

Buddy, I understand how the salary cap works, your trade is still completely unfair. Remove Coleman then maybe. Zero chance Tampa trades him. There is absolutely 0 chance a deal like this goes through and there is a reason No one agrees with you.

NHL Rumor Mill – December 2, 2020
by Lyle Richardson | Dec 2, 2020 | Rumors | 11 comments
Could the Lightning and Red Wings become trade partners? Are the Predators preparing for more moves? What’s the latest on Mikael Granlund? Find out in today’s NHL rumor mill.

THE ATHLETIC: In a recent mailbag segment, Eric Duhatschek was asked what moves the Tampa Bay Lightning could make to shed sufficient cap space to re-sign Anthony Cirelli and Erik Cernak while staying cap compliant for 2020-21.

Could the Detroit Red Wings take Tyler Johnson off the Tampa Bay Lightning’s hands? (NHL Images)

Duhatschek suggested the Detroit Red Wings as “the obvious first landing place” to address the Lightning’s cap issues. Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is the former Lightning GM and responsible for many of the contracts on their books.

“In a perfect world,” Duhatschek said he’d try to move Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn to Detroit, along with a first-round pick and quality young player. He thinks the Wings would jump on that deal if the young player was Cernak but the Bolts don’t want to part with him. Whatever moves the Lightning make they won’t be taking back players in return.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Duhatschek’s colleagues Joe Smith and Max Bultman discussed the possibility of a Lightning-Red Wings swap. They agree Johnson or Killorn to the Wings could make sense depending on what the rest of the package looks like.

As Duhatschek points out, the Wings seem a logical trade partner for the Lightning given their cap space and Yzerman’s ties to the Bolts. However, that depends on whether the Wings are among the preferred trade destinations for Johnson or Killorn.

Duhatschek also commended the Nashville Predators for a “quietly successful” offseason, creating nearly $13 million in cap space while adding affordable grit such as Luke Kunin, Nick Cousins, Brad Richardson and Mark Borowiecki. He feels they’ve done their heavy lifting and suggests they hoard their cap space to see what the club looks like on the ice and what areas of the roster still needs improvement.
