Description
Niku won’t pass waivers so he’s on the roster to stick. Samberg is nhl ready and sending him to the AHL will only burn a year off his elc. Heinola is the most nhl ready prospect on the team, but it looks like he will be sent back to Europe or the AHL so not off burn a year of his elc.

So this is what is likely happening: (ie nothing)
Let’s see what this team can do. Niku can definitely grow into the role next to pionk but I want to see what Samberg can do there first. Worst case is Niku’s defensive game isn’t good enough for top 4 yet and Samberg isn’t ready for top 4. The jets therefore make a move for a top 4 d.

An additional note: I think there is a real chance perfetti makes this team. If he can dominate the world juniors he will imo. He reportedly has put on quite a bit of muscle and is a much better skater too. And obviously you can’t teach hockey sense, which he has loads of.

Same with Vesalainen and gustafsson. They both are playing well in Europe right now. I think one of them might make it. Wouldn’t mind either spending a year in the A though.

They can't slide a year of Samberg's ELC by sending him to the Moose?

The same thing I was thinking, not sure why his ELC wouldn’t slide.

And I see nothing wrong with starting Samberg with the Moose, really don't think he's going to be any better then Forbort anyway and if it helps with the cap situation in the long run then that needs to be a factor, also think they should be fair to Niku and give him a chance to sink or swim, why shouldn't Samberg pay his dues on the farm like so many other Jets D prospects have in the past?

He’s over 20 years old so he’s not eligible for an elc slide

Ok, tbh I don’t understand what you are trying to say here. Would you clarify please?

I think Samberg is almost a lock to play in the nhl (unless he has a bad camp) since he isn’t eligible for an elc slide and is a better option than guys like forbort or beaulieu, and niku isn’t waivers exempt so he would never clear. So those 2 are locks in my mind for the nhl team. Heinola is likely in the ahl or Europe for another year just because his elc can slide a year

The problem is that Samberg is nhl ready and his elc won’t slide. If we give him ice time now, he will be better by the end of the year (and maybe even top 4). The moose might help him but I’d rather have him on the jets since he is a better option than the guys we have (other than niku)

As for niku. I agree. I gave him the chance here, hope the jets do the same. I think he could be a perfect stopgap option until both heinola and Samberg are ready for more. Anyways, I really want to see niku succeed. Just when we though he would break out this year, he got injured...multiple times. Terrible luck on his part

That’s if the ahl starts. It might not...

The AHL needs revenue to run, and with no fans in games, I don’t see them opening up

Also I said either or I believe, though I may have not. But I did mean to

I mean if the jets let them. The jets can say no you know. They don’t have an out clause in their respective contracts
