I'd say at first glance it heavily favors OTT since we know what a star Meier is and he still has upside too whereas Norris is an unproven. If he pulls a Barzal and starts lighting up though, hindsight's always 20-20 and rejecting this deal would be as depressing as 2020. For now, no way Jose SJ would say yes. But that take can change as early as halfway through this upcoming season.

I can see that, truthfully I’m not as high on Meir, and I loved Tierney. I really think Norris will be top line center in 1-3 years, he looks legit. Maybe this is personal bias maybe I should get onboard Meir being our future.

You could be right. I'm all-in on the idea of bringing Tierney back but who knows how Meier/Norris will develop...

My thought is they both end up close with Norris playing C making him more valuable (I’d almost trade them 1-1 tbh) and Tierney is just an epic sweetener!

Really I see Norris as a top 2C good 1C, and I think Meir has topped out.
I could be dead wrong but I see a Setoguchi style career arch in Meir. That’s what worries me so I’m in a sell high ideal for him.

You are dead wrong. Yeesh. Seto was a product of Jumbo in his prime. Meier has already had more success than Seto without Jumbo as his center.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’d have to disagree pretty emphatically. Norris is very comparable to Robert Thomas and Morgan Frost in production who were conveniently both picked right after him. Thomas, although still young, is a 35-50 point player fully established. Norris will be good, there’s no doubt about that, but I see his ceiling being at best an okay 2C or really good 3C. Maybe about 60 points max, but more realistically in the 40-50 range once he’s developed enough.

Meier definitely hasn’t topped out I don’t think. He has the toolset to be an immense driver of play and a unique one at that. Power forwards like him aren’t very common at all and with the right line-mates Meier could potentially get to 35-40 goals, and an equal amount of assists. I will admit I was disappointed with him last year, but beneath the shortcomings there’s a borderline elite player there. His skating is good, shot is heavy, he can drive the net and can play a solid 200 foot game. And he’s only 23(?). He’s not a Mikko Rantanen, but I think he’s at least approaching that level of potential. I’d hang onto him all day long.

Meier isn’t the same as Seto in both circumstance and in play style. Setoguchi very much benefitted from playing with guys like Jumbo, Marleau, Pavelski, etc. whereas Meier hasn’t really needed to rely on any generational talents to gain success. Selling on him now would be selling low imo. He has a LOT more to give smile

I'd agree on a lot of these points. Meier is 24 years old, and has shown just how good he can be.

I really feel like the Sharks are going to sit back now, and see what they've got. They're in this weird spot where everyone knows that they *should* be better than they were last year. They've got so much money invested into older players that are almost impossible to move, that they have to cross their fingers and hope that they bounce back. Meier would bring back a solid return, but is there much point in that, when you've got so much tied up into Vlasic/Burns/Karlsson/Couture, all of whom are over 30?

Very fair points and I hope your right, it’s just my gut and intuition has been pretty accurate in the past and I worry I’m right and I hope I’m wrong here.

This is one of those cases where I don’t have facts to back up my thoughts just a gut intuition that I hope is wrong, I like Meir but I can’t shake my feeling
