Helleson is an interesting prospect. Your so loaded with the high end dmen hes gone a bit under the radar. He seemed solid but not flashy at BC.

Right now Helleson is looking like a solid 3rd line player but that can and probably change since he is about to start his 2nd season at Boston College and will get more ice time. Your best bet is to hold on to him because I don't see him returning a 3rd round pick. Now with Renouf I wouldn't put him in any trades he has basically no value. He's 26 and played 1 NHL game 4 seasons ago for Detroit and since he cleared waivers more than once last season no one is going to give up anything for him. Like Frk in Detroit, Montoya in Edmonton, Hudon in Montreal. Baertschi in Vancouver and Bracco in Toronto.

Why would we even want to trade Helleson for a 3rd round pick? He's exactly the type of Dman we need in the system to give ourselves a good chance of replacing Johnson's shutdown ability at RHD by 2023. Helleson and Barron give us two shots at that.

I get it and I'm not trying to say he isn't good but why spend a 3rd on a player who is not going to move past 3rd pair? Especially when they already have Lindstrom a defensive defenseman that in his first NHL trip played with more poise than most of the vets on the team. Since he is perfectly fine playing that roll there is really no need to give up a 3rd another D who probably won't be happy in that roll.

It's a trade that doesn't make sense for either team.

I agree 100% and in my first post I said it's better to hold on to him. Going in to his second season at BC he knows the system and what the coach expects out of his players he will continue to get more ice time.
