"The last 47 games of the season he had 22 points, which is a 38 point pace." Kalopsia

So before anyone says Panik isnt good i posted his possession numbers with his xgf%. He's a really soild bottom 6 guy

My take... Sens are 5 ish million below the cap floor and Panik would be the perfect player to help push the young for roster position. He would keep them honest or make them compete harder knowing that the spot would be just given to them.

Is this an official trade or a trade you think will happen? Great deal, either way, caps clear cap, sens get a decent NHLer for cheap

He's not a bad player, but Ottawa doesn't need to add more veteran presence in the bottom six. They have C.Brown, Tierney, Watson and Anisimov. What they need, if they're looking to add a vet forward Is someone who can be a driver of offense at the top of the lineup to support the young players there. The only proven top six forward they have is Brady Tkachuk, then you're mostly projecting the top two lines to be primarily composed of guys with fewer than 50 NHL games, which could work, it's a lot to ask for a handful of rookies to be responsible for all of a team's offense like that.

It would make way more sense for Ottawa to try and add a guy like Granlund, or even a Dadonov if he'd take a 1 year deal. The Sens were allegedly willing to give some real money to Toffoli, so if they could convince someone to take the Taylor Hall route and come to Ottawa, pad the stats for a year and then cash in next year in a better market for free agency, they would be better off doing that.

they drafted a top 6 talent also but heres how i see the Sens line up... adding Panik

Tkachuk Tierney Brown
Stützle White Norris
Balcers Brown Panik
Watson AA Batherson

i can see them needing to add a high end talent but i imagine they would want their younger players to get experience in those top roles .see what they need to draft based on how well those player succeed or fail. If Panik can put up some great numbers they can flip him for a higher pick... or just keep him

Batherson will be 1RW or 2RW. Also in my opinion, adding a body in the top 6 benefits the young guys MORE than just giving all those spots up to the kids. A rising tide lifts all boats, and adding an established top six talent for those kids will make things easier for them and will make them better in the long run. It also benefits the bottom six as it bumps one of the young talents to the 3rd line which will contribute to the overall scoring depth.

For example:

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Stützle-White-Granlund
L.Brown-Tierney-C.Brown
Paul-AA/Chlapik-Watson

Obviously eventually you expect the youth to be ready to take over, but having talent to shoulder the burden is a better support than having really good bottom six depth.

While Ottawa appreciates your thoughtfulness once they sign Brown and Tierney they will be above the cap. But is Wash includes Siegenthaler Ottawa would happily send back Zaitsev...

i view Zaitsev more as a cap dump then a good NHL D man so i will respectfully decline and i think Sieg is a really solid player... maybe Panik and Siegs for Brown? smile

I think Ottawa would be satisfied not having Panik and keeping Brown. Win/win for both teams...
