Sorry for the mention guys, but what'd y'all think of this team? Are they legit contenders?

Why are changing marners contract you can’t do that can you I don’t get what you’re doing there

I think Fla passes, but yeah. If Crawford is healthy, they're good. If you're gonna redo Marner's contract, assuming he gets eight years? But that just doesn't work under the "create a player" button?

Third pair is still not as good as Tampa's last year, but Tampa's won't be either.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't decided the term for a redo of Marner's contract, just feel his value is 9 million.

I like the team! Trade values seem okay as well. I would probably play Perry in Martin's spot and move Martin to Clifford's spot and not re-sign him. Instead, sign 2 players for league minimum so you can have a full 23 man roster. Also, what is going on with Marner's contract?

Quoting: palhal
Horrid trade for Eckblad. Heck you can get spend 7.5m on UFA,,,,and keep Sandin, Robertson and the two first rounders. What's with the Marner LTIR and then signing?

Quoting: Ryminister_27
Fat no from Toronto. They aren't giving up the farm system for 1 guy. That's not their method (nor should it be).

Am why am I seeing multiple posts about Marner re-doing a contract? Makes no sense

The basic idea is to terminate Marner's current deal and make him sign a deal one that has a lower cap hit but similar total earnings (he's not making that much now after being paid his bonus). IDK if the league will allow it or if Marner agrees but that's what I want.

not with that defense.
you added grit on the bottom 6...but can they actually play hockey?

Yeah I feel most of the grit guys in that bottom 6 (Engvall, Clifford, Perry and Martin) can still contribute. Simmonds is the only one I doubt, lots of guys are saying he's washed.

Not sure.

Below average goalies

And absolutley not sustainable.

I am very much against trading ELC players. Rather let those players push out Johnsson, Kerfoot or Dermott.

Plus. Lehtonen over Dermott any day of the week

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts. I think goaltending is good, Crawford led the league in high danger save percentage this season. I get your point about the ELC players, it's just, I don't feel Johnsson, Kerfoot and Dermott have enough value to fetch Ekblad, so I traded Robertson and Sandin.

Too much for Ekblad. You're a big fan of cap space. Your giving them 6.5M in cap space and our 2 top prospects (who are probably worth top 10 picks) plus 2 more 1sts...

There goes our future...

Quoting: hamzamohammad
Dude that's an insane overpayment for Ekblad.

2 1sts, plus a top 10 d prospect, top 10 winger prospect.

Not good value at all for the leafs and kills our prospect pool completely

Quoting: KileDoobis
way too much for ekblad. what's the deal with the marner contract? I don't want to give up a second just to resign clifford. Team looks alright. Still not cup contenders imo

Quoting: Jack_
Way too much for Ekblad. They cant be having Martin on their 3rd line either. Trading rielly for Ekblad would make so much more sense

Thanks for the feedback, I agree it is a lot to give up. Will be exploring a Rielly for Ekblad trade in the future.

Make him sign it? Why would he do that?

Also, the Leafs can't just terminate the contract if they won't to. Marner has to either breach the conditions of the contract, or both sides agree to mutually terminate it. Neither are happening. & I'm pretty sure if it did happen, the league wouldn't let Toronto re-sign him at a lower cap hit

I just don't think it is worth to give up that much. Giving up the future for a big maybe. If you want to trade someone for a star D, trade Marner

Future top pair D + Future top line winger + 2 firsts is too much. As much as I love Ekblad I'm not willing to pay this much

To mutually terminate the contract it has to actually be mutual. I think for his agent to advise him to mess with it, they're gonna want to earn more total money, even if it's over more time.

Adding Ekblad to a team that has Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Reilly, and Muzzin makes this a very good team.
IDK if Florida would accept that trade but considering the picks should be among the last 4 it is not too much for him.
You are obviously using creative financing to make the cap space, which may be just fine, IDK.
