As csick pointed out Holloway has offensive upside and big potential. Likely they felt he was better than the leafs pick for example (I agree), and more complete/ safer than some of the other choices.

Safe is boring. Play to win or let someone else do it for you.

Name the pieces Edmonton's going to use to get his 4 year deal off the books. They're up against the cap, likely with Neal being the piece they're going to try and drop on Seattle. They're stuck with that deal, and the only way to get any value out of it is to keep Kassian with McDavid.

He’s gonna be on the 3rd line. Holloway-McDavid-Pool/Lavoie

The guy is built like an ox though. Ask any of his teammates - even as an 18 year old playing in college his strength stands out. That's rare.

he's not he's 200lbs. Lets be honest. The role of a power forward is to agitate, get in the dirty areas put people on their but etc... He's small for the power forward role.

Marchand is not a power forward lol
an agitator runt yes. But the only reason he hasn't got killed yet is because no one wants to beat on a midget.

You're both missing the point: Kassian already fills that powerforward role. Did I miss the memo that the expectation is for Edmonton to keep lining up third-line talents alongside MCDavid just because they're big and/or can skate?

If the idea was to run two scoring lines with McDavid away from Draisaitl, where's the additional scoring winger coming from?

I agree

If the rumour of Puljujarvi signing a one-year deal is true, I'm at least interpreting that as Edmonton aiming to trade him once they've established some NHL worth out of him. Given that we've been talking about Puljujarvi coming back for months now and a deal still doesn't exist, I really think he's not long for the Oilers. They'll give Puljujarvi 3rd line minutes and undersell on him.

But Lavoie is a power forward too. I'm absolutely not sold on Hollway's ceiling, and I'm praying that Edmonton gives him as much runway as he needs to develop. I'd have much prefered they traded down to select him while picking up an additional pick.

Weight does not necessarily mean strength. Read this:

Draft year:

Brady Tkachuk: 8 goals in 40 games
Dylan Holloway: 8 goals in 35 games

I think you're judging this player too soon and too harshly.

Now do the assists lmao

Holloway had 9. Tkachuk had 23.

Tkachuk put 3-6-9 in 7 games against his peers at the U20 in a top-line, premier role. Holloway played for the U18 team and put up 4 points in as many games against lesser competition.

Your galaxy-brain comparisons don't impress me. His NHLe is lower than a lot of other names in this draft, and I find that to be concerning.

Now adjust for usage and team strength.

Usage plays in my favour: Tkachuk got premier minutes. Holloway didn't because they didn't think he could handle the role.

I don't need per-minute, adjusted stats to tell me the Oilers just drafted a third-line winger with a top-15 pick. I'll stand by my previous statement: they should have traded down if he was their target.

And I stand by mine: you're judging too harshly and WAY too soon.
