Description
... You might as well be good whenever people can go back to watching your games.

This is dumb, and extra, but also kind of good. There are so many competing teams because of the extra playoffs round - everyone thinks they're really close. What if SJS decided to be bad?

Hertl and Meier are your prized assets - they are on cheap enough contracts to yield a solid prospect and a 1st - especially when taking salary back.

Rather than waiting for Burns and Kane to become awful contracts - sell now. Taking currently worse contracts back, but that end sooner could be a solution that both hands you more long-term assets and allows you to get rid of those contracts to teams that want to be good in the now.

Maybe NYR would take McNabb back as an asset?

Maybe there's a pick too much or little going some direction, but hopefully you get the idea.

Sell Sörensen and Ho-Sang at the TDL - presumably they produce well with PP and lots of ice time.

Vlasic and Couture could be moved if there are trade partners. I'm less sure Vlasic finds a home elsewhere - my best suggestion is Montreal for Alzner. I guess Couture could move somewhere like CBJ as a really good 2C - but they'd need to move salary back and want to take on the big contract to begin with.

whole problem with SJS is their contracts are so hard to move.
Even Burns. 8 million till 39 on an aging defenseman who's play deteriorated last year. Even if you are taking Lucic back, it's a big gamble for the other team.
Vlacic is very hard to move.
Karlsson even Couture. No one wants to be paying aging vets big money at the end of their careers. That model has been replaced.
People want contracts that end at 33-34 years tops. Because all the stats are showing that, that's when the tires fall off.
Very few guys are able to push past that at a high level of play and some of the ones you think should, end up being plagued by injury.
SJS really needs to rethink their model and remove their GM/President as they clearly didn't see this coming.

For a 30-goal scorer on a team that never put up that much offense? Krejci would love a guy with a shot, a set of wheels, and that goes in front of the net as well. And he's 24. I wouldn't move Studnicka unless I got a great asset back. Meier is a great asset imo.

Yeah there is no chance Calgary touches that. No idea how you have Valimaki in the minors but Merkley on the 2nd pair awful take there.

Flames may do something like Lucic a 2nd and Zavgorodny for Burns but Valimaki is not on the table at all. Burns contract realistically is going to suck as much as Lucic's in a couple years

That's not the issue. Sure, we want a top6 winger (that can score) and I like Meier, but Bruins need someone to take the top6 C duties after Bergeron and Krejci retires. Studnicka is our best prospect and he'll likely be a 2C. If we trade him, we have nothing.

Rangers trade is quite tempting. I'm very high on Kravtsov but Hertl is everything we need. We heavily consider.

Yeah I recognize the Burns contract bit in the description. I didn't know if Välimäki would be ready as he was pretty set back a year or so ago, but if he is and is looking like his former self another prospect might work I guess.

If you say so. I imagine there will be a couple of years drafting at or near the top after those guys hang 'em up though.

I think this is a trade you make to compete right away, and it does make quite a bit of sense. Even his contract expiring in 2 years isnt all that bad with the franchise needing to sort a bunch of guys like Zib, Fox, (Shesterkin?) etc. at that point anyways, but at the same time some contract buy outs etc. freeing up some space. Those wings are pretty stacked with talent anyways and Kravtsov might end up playing a lot of 3rd line minutes anyways.

Only reason Valimaki didnt play these playoffs is because he was off a year and not playing means hes expansion exempt. Otherwise he easily made the team since he was fantastic at training camp.

In this (very constructed) scenario, SJS isn't looking for NHL ready players. They want to use the cap space to absorb big contracts for picks in return. Debrusk and Kase are both good players, but neither is great like Meier. Trading for futures makes sense, trading for two about as old and not as good players makes no sense.

I would think so too, but I would also think getting rid of basically 12 mil in dead cap space for a servicable top 6 forward has immense value for the Canucks. I'd keep Höglander at almost any cost, but I'm not sure Benning would.

Debrusk and Meier have roughly same value, same production. Kase > Gambrell.

Debrusk avg 25 goals per 82. Meier 23g per 82.

Sharks improve their top 6. Boston does not have to deal with Debrusk contract negotiations. Win/win.

Sure as hell not doing the trade posted.

I'm a Bruins fan. Not only is Debrusk not near the assist totals, but he's also on the better team, playing better minutes and doesn't have a 3 goals in 33 games debut season like Meier (and there is no way we attribute any of his value to that stretch). Teams match harder vs the top line - that benefits Debrusk but has the opposite effect on Meier's production. Trying to compare the two as having equal value seems super disingenuous to me.

The both are playing 2nd line. Both play about same time on PP. They get the same amount of attention.
