Adding 1 Dman... 3-2=1

You moved out Holl and apparently Dermott died in the offseason. I like the add of Demelo, bogo has been okay too but not exactly necessary. Hutton is very unnecessary.

Where's Dermott if rather him than Hutton and potentially Bogosian. Bogosian is playing well for TBL in the Cup finals but he was literally a waiver wire player 5 months ago. Is he being carried?

Holl is also better than you give him credit for. Why Rieder? Just put Barabonov there. And if it doesn't work out I'm not convinced Rieder is better than petan or our other NHL/AHL tweeners

Dermott would have to be moved of course, I just didn't bother to find a trade partner.

What frustrates me about Dermtot is his decision making, it's very erratic

Holl is significantly better than bogosian so pass. Holl was overall a good dman for the leafs, especially at the start of the season. He returns to playing like that he will be a solid RD for us.

We have 0 need for Hutton as we can have lehtonen be the third guy

Plus u forgot dermott lul

Oh Reider would definitely be in and out of the lineup with Barabanov

Reider is a great 4th liner as well as an amazing penalty killer, that's why I brought him in

No Holl's not good, he can't do sh*t without Muzzin
General rule: if you don't look like a top 4 d-man/top 6 player without your teammates, you're not a player of that caliber. Simple as that

I didn’t see it that way at all. He seems to take a lot of blame for poor partners and forwards mistakes though. I thought when called upon to be our top defender he showed up, also played well in the play ins. I would certainly keep him.

There is a rumour of him going to jersey circulating. I can’t see him being replaced by an inferior more expensive piece.

He’s not a great penalty killer, average at best but he is good at taking off and scoring. I would not mind him in Toronto but I think Calgary keeps him.

Muzzin was out for plenty of the year in the winter and Holl was fine.

Honestly I was impressed as I expected him to stink it up as I thought he was a 7th dman.

Is there a source for this rumour or just AGMs? I wonder what the trade would be.

Can't see any interest in their d beyond Severson but I think they want to keep him

Not completely wrong about Dermott I'm just getting tired of him making questionable decisions... if he could fix that he'd be a number 4. But now he's 3rd pairing guy

Holl/Dermott > Bogosian/Hutton for sure.

I'd look to add Brendan Dillon if you were wanting to go for another LHD. I do think adding a few guys to get some depth and force somebody to stand out is a good idea. If Sandin wants a spot, make him beat somebody out for it, don't just give it to him. We talk about wanting to "be like Tampa" well that's exactly what they do. Make prospects force their way in (Sergachev is a great example).

My wife was a charter service pilot (Bonanza's) in Texas when she lived there, and my dad was a B-24 co-pilot in the 8th Air Force in 1943.

Here are their aphorisms:

wife: There are no gas stations in the sky.

dad: There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots.

even if holl isn't great without muzzin, keeping them together is more benenfical than bringing in bogosian to sit on injury reserve or shoehorning a guy with 0 nhl games into the role.

the amount of vitriol holl gets is nuts.

Holl Dermott and ceci were certainly not the issue with the leafs defence this season.

A certain ofd that was a complete pylon and had to be sheltered in the 3rd pair... that was an issue.

Now that Dman is looking for a big payday and the leafs can be rid of him. Ceci although not horrible certainly wasn’t good when not in his own end. Another one headed right for the Center of the sun.

Leafs still have their four best dmen from last year. Two rookies both of which were better than Barrie at minimum. And a European player who is in the Khl showing why he doesn’t belong there.

Leafs seem to have enough depth to fill the roster. Do they want an upgrade? Sure they do, every team does. Can they hold on to their 3m and let it accrue into 9m of deadline cap space and see what they need at that point? Sure they can.

Holl actually had good numbers without muzzin. His pk dropped to 74.5 from 78% but his defense 5 vs 5 stayed relatively the same even without muzzin being at 70%. So no he can do **** without muzzin lul.

Ceci apparently wants more than what we gave him. Good luck boy no team is stupid enough to pay him more than 4.5 heck he will be lucky to get a mill

Dermotts a wildcard that I think Dubas is trying to figure out. Rn Dermott is at that stage where he can either develop into a nice top 4 Dman or just be a bottom pair guy. However the one thing going for him, his stats. As said before his stats are comparable to many top 4 dman when they were his age, heck he could become the next nate schmidt as rn both are on a similar development curve. But there is also the chance dermott just does not improve enough to be a top 4 guy and while good basically is stuck on the 3rd pairing. Just got to wait and see.

Exactly a 23 year old 3rd pairing guy with a logical progression to second pairing as he improves with maturing... Seems like a good guy to keep

A good idea if we had cap space and more RHD depth, but we have 3 NHL D men (Rielly, Muzzin, Dermott), plus a European FA who looks ready (Lehtonen), plus two #7 NHL defenseman (Marincin and Rosen), plus a top prospect (Sandin) who can play LD.

RHD we have one NHL defenseman who wasn't an NHL defenseman 18 months ago (Holl) and one good prospect (Liljegren). A few of the guys above (Lehtonen, Dermott, Marincin) can play RS but except for Lehtonen who I don't know his preference, all prefer LD

If we are signing a D it has to be RD or with trades

RD are a premium. His problem on the Leafs was the only spot we had for him was as a #1 pair defenseman.

Slot him in for 18 reliable minutes a night and he'll do fine, perhaps even excel.
