Description
Before everyone (accurately) points out Florida is trying to save money, this trade would be done AFTER signing bonuses.

Check out Marner's contract, 30 million of his 65 million 6 year contract is paid out by the day after his signing bonus. He then makes $0.75 million salary this year and about 35 million in the 4 seasons after.

So 7 mil on average if you include the 750k year or about 8.6 mil for the 4 years after

Why would Toronto trade Marner to a divisional opponent?

Why on earth would the Panthers do this? MacKenzie Weegar isn’t exactly #1D material.

Florida declines they've no use for Marner, Florida isn't dealing their best young Dman in Aaron Ekblad for pieces that really don't help them neither Dermott or Holl are what they need. They downgrade badly on D for the sake of adding Marner. More then likely Florida will retain one of Dadanov/Hoffman. So Marner isn't a need.

Correct me if I am wrong here but, have the Leafs brass not made it abundantly clear that they don't plan on trading Mitch Marner?

In a flat cap world no one besides Matthews should be totally off the table

The Leafs should really trade Marner.

He is an incredible player, but he isn't worth his cap hit. That isn't the end of the world, but in a flat cap environment it makes it worse. They now have an advantage that with his signing bonus paid, his salary is fair or even low for his skills, which makes him appealing to teams that don't want to spend money in this low $$ environment and won't mind his cap hit.
