Pietrangelo with minimal moves

Description
I could listen to the argument of Nosek of Cousins.

Zetterberg on LTIR lets Vegas run out Statsny's contract allowing them to retain their forward core. Martinez was a really good fit on Vegas but Pietrangelo boosts their right side which has been a weakness.

I can see Detroit attempt to negotiate price but that would depend on the 3rd teams return.

This would be part of a three way. Vegas takes 1M from Detroit in raw cash for them to retain 2-3.5M. For their trouble Vegs is giving a solid prospect and NJD 3rd.

Leafs definitely match the Martinez offer, 2021 2nd, 2022 3rd as well as a prospect

Zetterberg cost us nothing on LTIR, Only $1 million in real money and is insured, If Detroit retains 2 x $3.5 on MAF it's going to cost a 2021 1st round pick Yzerman isn't doing it for Korczak+2020 NJ 3rd round pick.

Yes no question

How in the world would Brodin, Hanifin, Pesce as well as other number threes not be worth 1sts?

Hanifin is still a number 3, Pesce is nothing more than a number 3 and Brodin has one season where he's played at a number 2 level, being 19-20. I'll wait before 100% calling him a number 2

Never said he is lol. Brodin is worth a top 12 pick, Pesce a top 15 one and Hanifin is in that ballpark too. Martinez (because of his age) is worth a late 1st, or an early 2nd plus prospect

Lehner's reported deal is $5mmx5 years. But you are still over the cap by more than $2mm.

It's extremely possible that DET is the 3rd team in deals like this (see Lundqvist, Hank for a similar opinion), but the return has to be worth it. That isn't a very decent return to retain $3.5mm. DET (or OTT) would need value at both retaining the contract, and player value.

The reported value is a month old so err on the side of caution. As to Cap the attempt is to pull a Leafs ALA 18-19 apparently I am missing something when it comes to LTIR rules.

The value of the Fleury trade being a 3 way means that it is not entirely on Vegas to make it worth it for Detroit. I did comment this in my description

This team is $3M over the cap and the contracts for Cousins and Stephenson are probably way too low.
Evolving Hockey projects Cousins around $3m and Stephenson around $2.4M... Flat cap and Vegas' cap situation will probably push those down a bit, but not all the way to $1 & $1.5

Cousins at 3M is a bad contract. I could see Stephenson at 1.75 - 2M. If they want more they are RFA and a bridge deal is open to be made. If Cousins challenges more than 1.25M he is gone an Nosek is in for 1M and Vegas loses 0 productivity.

Leafs had $81M in active players on their roster. The Clarkson trade was a one-off that was necessary as the Leafs were worried about Marner holding out into the season. And it could only work because Horton was already on the cap. It's complicated, I could explain it in a bit more detail if you want, it's not really easy to summarize.

The long and the short of LTIR is it's not free capspace, teams only use it when they have no other alternatives, and it does not allow teams to go over the cap. It allows a team to replace an injured players caphit, not go over the cap by that amount.

Well that is unfortunate. I was really hoping not to have to move a wing but I can't see a way around it if they go big game hunting. Unless Glass proves he is ready. Darn

From an outsider's perspective, I was assuming Stastny was the odd man out if LV landed Pietro (and Martinez like you have here), but that's just a guess.

Money perspective I agree. The only issue Vegas has is if worst case Karlsson gets hurt and Glass isn't there yet Stephenson is your #1 with Cousins and Roy to fill out the rest. Woof. Best case scenario though is Glass and Krebs step up and life is great.

Yeah, lots of moving parts for both of the "Favorites" to land Pietro.
