While he is overpayed, he's worth 9 mil I'd say. Not 7.5, that's just stupid.

no way why do you think boston beats you in the first round because the highest contract on that team is 7,5 so they can build a team around good players

watch this.... this is how you sound

Marner is going to be a generational talent where Matthews is going to be just elite Matthews also plays with very good players that help him out but he is not worth that much Marner is getting better where MAtthews needs a change and trade him you have a great team. Also Marner is way better in different aspects of the game....

matthews took 67.81% offensive zone starts

Marner should make 5 to 7.5 the only reason he makes that much is because other teams kept uping the price and dubas did not to lose a young talent and he also did not want to piss of leaf fans

Marner at 5m? Yeah this conversation is over....

Florida is not the team I see interested in marner. They have enough issues on defense that moving Ekblad doesn’t seem like an interesting move.

I mean “not putting up as many points as he should” is pretty much conjecture. I mean Rantanen should have put up more points for his money too, same with Aho. It certainly doesn’t make any 3 of them bad players or even necessarily bad contracts. They are all young players that will continue to get better throughout their contracts and will not peak or fall off a cliff due to age.

One 90 point season idc about flordia this is a toronto team im just tired of seeing everyone trade nylander your never ever going to win a cup without defence and ekblad dosent want to play there no more not saying he wants to play in totonto to but i think getting rid of marner could help out the team alot

How many teams have 90+ point wingers. They don’t just grow on trees.

Yeah I remember coming up with like 8.8 x 5 using Kane's 2nd contract as the comp, which would be on the high side of comps when you consider teams paying for the team success.

Can’t I just like them both? Lol.

Honestly Matthews is much better than marner. But neither of them is a “poor player”.

Leafs office will find a way to make the cap work and both will continue to get better.

My only point is if you want to move one of the 3 (Tavares will not be moved period) then I think marner just makes more sense.

His return would be very simmikar to nylanders to the right team. It would also move out more cap.

I know what you’re thinking no team is going to return zero cap. But if leafs take back cap in the form of filling a weak spot than it certainly makes sense.

"Matthews is much better than marner" ... he really isnt. I'd say Mtthews plays a more important position but they both are pretty similar in talent/skill. Matthews actually starts 68% of his shifts in the offensive zone. last year 113 d zone and 765 o zone starts. i would consider that pretty sheltered minutes imo. Marner is able to play 4v5 5v5 and 5v4. I would take a Marner over a Matthews. i understand why leaf fans love him but its like saying a meter is a lot bigger than a yard

marner is overpaid by a mill thats nothing. Half his deal has already been paid to him. Marner is one of those players you dont move as he is only gonna get better. Heck if he learns gap control he literally is the forward version of Quinn Hughes. In general with a full healthy season I see him reaching the 100point mark

The main reason people move Nylander is the return will be much better. His contract is easier to move and will get value.

In general moving either one is silly

It’s not so much sheltered as it is opportunistic. You have one of the best 5v5 goal scorers in the league on your bench.... who are you tossing over the boards for an Ozone face off?

Matthews has done quite well defensively and I don’t think he needs to be sheltered that way.

leafs have actually made it to the second round more often than edmonton since 93.

You'd think you'd have a little more sympathy for us, considering you guys kept losing to Dallas in the first round in the early 2000s.
