New 1C for Minny

Créé par: jmac490
Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 17 sept. 2020
Publié: 17 sept. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Dumba may not be the best fit for the Leafs, considering he's an offensive DMan, but I like Muzzin's playstyle that can adapt to a defensive/offensive partner on his pair, and I think he and Dumba would succeed quite well together, and Greenway replaces some of the lost offensive presence of Nylander, while adding a grittier dynamic to the Leafs team.

There will probably be a few of you that really dislike this trade, and I'd like to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I wonder if they could get Cirelli for a 2021 1st rd pick, and if Tampa would be willing to accept a top-10 protected for 2021 also.

This trade could still be made, and roll Nylander back to the wing.

So offensive dman @ $6M, who hits a bit and defends OK (certainly not above avg.) is better than the better offensive dman @ $4-5M who's bad defensively and 23 yo cost controlled 30 g 70ish point first liner combined.

    Gotcha wink

Dumba defensively is not that much better than Barrie. He has spent time next to literally one of the best defensive defensemen in the league, and has bleed chances. In this proposal you put him next to Muzzin, who I absolutely love, but he is not as good as Brodin at this stage. And you are asking that pair to play the shutdown minutes, because that second pair definitely can't. And you have absolutely trashed your team upfront.

OK. But the Leafs are a way better hockey team with Tyson Barrie and William Nylander as opposed to just Dumba.

That was the gist of my 2nd post.

And IMO teams like Edm that need RHD off dmen will call Barrie about a contract before dealing a Nugent-Hopkins level player for Dumba. Leafs need a right handed Muzzin, so I don't see them having interest in either (unless it cost significantly less than Nylander to land Dumba, which it won't).

    Just my two cents.

Dumba's coming off a poor season, and Nylander is a major risk for a top 6 centre. Don't like thay trade for either team.

You are too kind, his defending is definitely below average. These people that think Dumba is so good really do need to watch some Wild games.

They could honestly add Cirelli as well with an offer sheet. Tampa is right against the cap, so an offer of 5M/year for 4-5 years could prove difficult for the Lightning to match. Would also bolster the lineup for Minny quite well.

Yeah, I get that. Rielly/Dermott could also function as a pair, as I honestly don't see Holl as a Top 4 guy, which could potentially alleviate some pressure off of the Muzz/Dumba pairing. Like I said in the description, I think Muzz can function as the first guy back to give Dumba a little more freedom to be that offensive guy.
Unfortunately we don't get much Minnesota hockey in Ontario, so I can't really comment on his skill as a defender. I still have some faith in him from the fantasy hockey pool when he had a 50 point season. Giving up Nylander is a difficult pill to swallow for sure though.

Well I guess it would depend on what you are looking for then. If you want a dman that puts up those high point numbers up, then yeah he could/probably will do that. But the leafs problem is defending, and getting more depth scoring and better goaltending. Dumba does not do that. Honestly in my opinion Rielly is a better two-way guy and I would rather have him, and I still would be worried about him playing top competition unless a stud defensive dman was next to him. Dumba had that with the Wild that they still struggled with that. I'm a leafs fan, I would hate it. We need another Muzzin like player to play with Rielly. That is not Dumba. And that does not even speak to moving Nylander for that.
