Kane to COL

Créé par: Foppa21

Description
Is this fair value for Kane? SJ in need of futures and youth on defense. Kane on a line with Kadri and Landeskog would be glorious to watch.

Not sure if the numbers work out for the Avs later on, but with Cole and Calvert lost to UFA in '21, and Donskoi/Compher/Graves to Seattle in the expansion draft, we should have enough for Landy, Makar, and Grubauer. Could be wishful thinking though.

SJ declines, would need either another forward or a goalie, not another expensive D.

Does nothing for SJ. Trading them Donskoi, Martin Kaut and Pavel Francouz would definitely be good for SJ. They might even throw in a pick to make it happen...

No from the Sharks. I think they'd want someone like Compher back, and probably the 2020 first.

I can't see Jost getting that much, either. He's young and decent, but he's definitely stagnated and I'm not sure he has top-6 potential...he's just come off an atrocious playoffs (IMO). Players like him aren't a dime-a-dozen, but perhaps a dollar-a-dozen. He's the kind of player you get for a 3rd, or maybe in exchange for a similarly stagnating player.

Fair enough. Thought there might be a fit. Avs will be relying on Kaut this year in the bottom six with his ELC, so I doubt they move him. I could certainly see another prospect though; I went with Greer because I feel like he fits SJ's playing style.

What's the offseason outlook for the Sharks anyway? Are they looking to tear it down?

I'm currently making a SJS AGM, I'll post it in 10 minutes or so, take a look at it when I'm done. I'll be doing a Kane to COL move

I'd do Kane + 2nd -> Jost + Nichuskin + Francouz.

Unlikely that there will be a tear down, doesn't make sense, and from what I've been reading, Wilson does not want to disrupt the core too much.

doesnt SJ need young Dmen? Outsider of Merkley the D prospescts seem underwhelming . Graves seems like an ideal target. Young enough to keep around for a few years and wont cost a lot aav to fill out that top 4/5 with the Big 3 Dmen.

That was my thinking. Z will undoubtedly be more expensive than Graves though, so Graves might be the better fit.

the issue for SJ is that there isn't any roster spots for them, Burns and Karlsson are still here on the right side, while Vlasic, Ferraro, and Simek are on the left. Merkley is coming up along with recently signed Pasnichuk, there just isn't room unless big pieces get moved.

Sharks need to cut down on Defense spending, and getting the questionable Zadorov isn't a solution.

but what are the sharks doing...competing or restocking. Pasnichuk or Ferraro are not as good as Graves so if they are going to just give time to young guys can respect that,
but if they are going to try to win, that Dcore on the back end seems very questionable.

Understandable. It was an interesting year for Z, he was inconsistent for most of the year and then locked it down in the playoffs. Graves was the polar opposite and more or less disappeared in the Avs run.

Competing, Ferraro is 21 and is coming off a much better rookie season that the numbers suggest, and could be potentially as good or nearly as good as Graves by next year (crazy workaholic). Cap is SJ's biggest enemy, and Graves is going to get a big bump in salary. SJ has too many holes to fill up front to be giving more salary to D.

Graves wont get a huge bump, hes gong to be a 2-2.2m range. Look at walker signed on a 4 year deal at 2.6m aav. That is graves biggest comp.
Hes not the 4m or 5m aav that some guys sign him here, nothing justifies that sort of contract

thats fair, I just don't see how its beneficial enough to get a slightly better D now for one that will be much better within 2 years.

I can understand that logic.
Just sharks are in such a fascinating spot this off season, no idea where they will go. Is lebanc a goner or is there room to sign him?

The only inclination we get from GM Wilson is that he wants to be back in the playoffs next year and competitive. Moving our top goal scorer completely negates that. Our forward core (Kane, Couture, Hertl and Meier) will not be moved as that makes zero sense. Last thing we need ad @Klara pointed out is more defensemen, thats where were strongest right now. We need forwards and preferably ones that can put the puck in the next then we need a veteran 1B goalie, thats it.

From an outsider looking in (who knows nothing about Wilson's inclinations), they objectively need a lot more than that. 6th worst GA, 5th worst GF, and not much money coming off the books for a while, so without knowing much about the team, it looks like they're staring down a revamp of sorts. Again though, that's from a total outsider who only watches from afar.

Sharks fans seem to be split on what we should do. Doesnt matter. Our GM is not a rebuild GM. When we missed the playoffs in 2015 (the only other time we missed the playoffs since 2003) many analysts and fans were saying it was rebuild time. Instead Wilson added a couple vets (Joel Ward and Paul Martin) and a couple more at tdl (Spaling and Polak, also Reimer as backup) and we went to game six of the finals that year. This team is arguably better than that one was, Karlsson, Couture, Hertl and Kane are in their prime and despite last season Burns is still an excellent offensive dman. So some help at RW and a solid veteran goalie like Greiss or Khudobin and maybe a 3C if Jumbo doesnt return to SJ (he almost certainly will)

Im very confident this is a playoff bound team next season with the right additions even with our limited cap around 14 mil with Labanc to sign still. We have two picks in the top 35 and i can almost guarantee at least one of those picks is in play and with the flat cap Wilson should be able to add a top six RW fairly easily with many teams looking to shed salaries. Marcus Sorensen is almost certainly gone. Potential prospects in play are True and Hamaliuk, possibly Kniazev (see Pasichnuk signing)

If we miss the playoffs next year you can add me to the rebuild list but until then I am confident and supportive of his team to contend next year. Just my two cents, I think @Klara and @papishark are on roughly the same page.

Being in a smaller non-traditional market the Sharks cannot really afford a long rebuild as that wouldnt bode well woth fans and particularly so with Covid. Not to mention all the NTCs and NMCs hanging around.

Do as much to put the team on a position to compete, and try hard to change locker room culture, if everything is still dead, blow it up.
