I know this is going to sound insane, but by draft pick values, Anaheim is getting screwed here. Not sure if they pass up on Rossi.

Yeah it does sound insane. I’d rather have Lundell and 38 then Rossi and a fifth. This fully acknowledging Rossi is better, but not essentially giving up a pretty good prospect at 38 for a scratch off

It's more the fault of historical values of those picks. There have been more superstars found at 6th than 8th and it does influence the pick value. I'm not a big fan of the second round this year - there's a lot of projected third-line or bottom-pair talent as high as the mid-40s. NHLe does favour Rossi by about 13%, and a lot of the literature between the two suggests Rossi has the potential to be more dynamic and that Lundell - despite the lower ceiling - is more stable of a projection.

The risk - and thus the decision itself - comes down to how dynamic do you think Rossi would become (does the organization itself have a factor in that?) and how much that initial 13% is going to matter. Is Rossi always going to be that much better than Lundell, will he become even greater? Can that 13% be made up by a third-line equivalent player had at #38?

Drafts are fun. I'm of the camp that Buffalo should be either praying that Rossi slips or seriously looking to trade up to acquire him.

Rossi is my target as well. I think there’s a chance he’s there. Especially if two D go ahead.

And what you said of the 2nd is pretty much every year. Not often are you getting 1/2 liners unless you get lucky. And you need to get really lucky in the fifth to even get a third liner

I think the last two drafts are going to produce quality middle-six guys: this year looks more and more like names past 45 are going to peak as third-liners. Minor distinction.

I don't think there should be a justifiable reason Sanderson goes top-10 in this draft, not with the quality of forwards available. I know Detroit was rumoured to be kicking the tires on Perfetti, but by effectively every metric Rossi was the better player. Honestly think he could be gone by the time Detroit exits stage left. And I know Ducks fans loathe the idea, but I think the odds are there for Anaheim to take Drysdale if he falls to #6.

We’ll see, crazy stuff happens at the draft. Someone who’s not supposed to be at 8 is gonna be there

I have a sneaking suspicion that it could be Raymond.

Oilers take that deal.

I personally believe that AA will be fine and he just needed some adjustment period. I do like the AA for Montour premise. Both teams gave up a lot for their player, and it makes it easier to flip those players for eachother.

I also really like Johansson when he was with the Caps. He would be a great 3rd line C. With salary retained here, thats a no brainer for the Oilers.
