With Danault being a rental there's not much you can add to him. He would not be the main piece.

They are both similar caliber players. The way I see it it wouldn't really benefit Winnipeg too much because Connor, Laine, and Wheeler aren't as good as everyone thinks they are so they would struggle there. Also take into the obvious fact that Danault is going to be a UFA soon where as Ehlers is on a great deal makes the Jets decline. I definitely still have a lot of interest in Danault and depending who is there at the 10 spot I would move that in a package for Danault

Fair enough, but every Danault trade would be with Danault signing an extension

It's still hard to judge value though unless the extension term and cap hits are known.

Danault at 5 yrs under 6 mil = good value
Danault at 5 yrs and 6.5 or more = not so good value.

There are too many variables to just cover it with a blanket "extension in place".

With a Danault extension, this is fair value

Over the past 2 seasons, Ehlers has been worth more than double Danault on the ice according to the data, of course this is before we also consider age and contract, both of which favor Ehlers.
