Description
The focus of this AGM is to lock down the goaltending position in the short- and long-term, by moving up in the draft to select Askarov (ahead of Carolina at 13 who likely pick him otherwise), and then trading for Kuemper.

Goaltending tandem each year:

2020/21: Grubauer/Kuemper
2021/22: Kuemper/Askarov (or acquire a cheap backup for 1 year if Askarov isn't quite ready)
2022/23: Askarov/Annunen

Andrei Vasilesky was a first round draft goalie, so was fleury, all doing well. Issue with Askarov he wont be NHL ready for 3-5 years so teams are gonna have to be patient.

That said, the offer is intriguing.

i get aves have a really nice pool of defenseman but that seems like a steal for graves... dubas accepts immediately but i dont think sakic would ever consider that.

What do you think Toronto would need to add to make the trade balanced? Should it just be Graves for #15 straight up perhaps?

I think Askarov could be ready much sooner than that. Probably around 2022/23. Same as Annunen.

Kuemper is an UFA in 2022. He'd help us for 2 cup runs and bridge the gap until our prospect goalies would be ready to take over.

I'm also not too keen on locking down 30+ goalies to long-term extensions.

It could be to any team that needs a cheap goalie. Buffalo/Detroit/etc.

Annunen is good, but he's not generational. Adding Askarov could be the key to keeping our cup window open for close to a decade.

a second for a backup goalie especially with the UFA goalie class is very unrealistic for any team. Maybe a 4th

Calling any goalie prospect generational is a crazy. If he were they would be talking about him in the top 5.

Kuemper will cost you a first rounder. Demers can get them a third or fourth round pick easily. He’s still a pretty solid hockey player

People ARE talking about him as a possible top 5 pick though. In most draft years there wouldn't even be a discussion. This years top 12 is just very deep.

Allen returned a 3rd, with a caphit of $4.35m and just 1 year term.

I think a very good backup at $2m x 2 years will be attractive to many teams if we make him available.

He's played a lot on the right side on the PK. Other than that he's played mostly LHD with Makar this season. I don't think handedness makes more of a difference for him compared to other Dmen.

im pretty low on him for now tbh maybe its just me personally. coming off a bad playoffs for a fairly unexperienced NHL goalie would frigthen me. If he goes for a return similar to allen i see that as a fair return but i still think a 2 is a stretch

I wasn't sure what value he would have, but asking around on capfriendly several fans from other teams said a 2nd was fair, including some Montreal and Toronto fans.

He did have a bad series against Dallas, but he apparently hurt his hand in game 2 which might have contributed. He was unfit to play in games 5-7, not even on the bench. Before that he was excellent in the regular season and his contract was widely celebrated as a steal.

it could also revolve around a multi-part andersen deal if an extension is reachable, but i still dont see aves needing to get rid of him for futures. i think leafs would be a little more interested in timmins because he plays the right side but i get hes unproven yet. he's also from the sault st marie greyhounds and dubas loves guys from there (where he came up the ranks)
