Who says no first CHI Toews

Description
Yes, I am fully aware that Toews has a NMC and that he's the captain of CHI.

Saad is likely a one-year rental because CGY would not protect him in the SEA expansion, and I think he'd get taken by SEA, so his value is low.

CGY fans: How much does CHI have to add to this deal (picks and/or prospects)?

CHI fans: Does getting 2/3rds of the most valuable players in the deal (and getting younger) make sense for CHI?

I could see this roster out-scoring CGY's current roster during the regular season. And then my take is that this roster is a much stronger playoff team than the current roster.

Alternatively, if Toews is untouchable, then CGY could look at a deal for Gaudreau:

- LW/RW Saad (+ retained salary)
- RD Murphy
- CHI 1st (2020: #15 overall)

Well, I hear y'all. So what does CHI have to add to their side of the deal for CGY to say yes?

Toews has at least 4-5 more solid years, and brings an incredible playoff pedigree. He would be a perfect C to play with Tkachuk. Saad is still a very useful player (+20G, great skater, only 27 years old). Murphy is a respectable 2RD on lots of teams and plays a great physical game that would pair well with Hanifin. All three guys would fit well into the Tkachuk-style team.

CGY could certainly get more assets for Gaudreau and Monahan individually. But Toews is the key piece of the deal that gives CGY a very strong 4+ year window to make playoff runs. He's the style of 1C that could really help CGY to win playoff rounds with this forward and defence group.

What does CHI have to add?

You realize that a trade has to benefit both teams right? This does nothing for Chicago. They have enough scoring wingers that are going to be highly paid. Saad is going to be sold off because we need cap space after next year. As nice as Johnny Hockey is, he’s a scoring winger, and the Hawks have that already in Kane, Debrincat, and Kubalik. They’re not going to downgrade their 1C, lose one of their top 4 D, and have less cap space in the long term just to add to a strength. This legitimately makes the Hawks worse for the next 3 years.

Toews declines it first. The man has won 3 Cups in Chicago, why would he waive his NMC to go anywhere else?

Chicago gets 2 younger forwards to help build the new team around and it decreases their time to contend. The present value of future assets.

It all comes down to whether JH is willing to go anywhere that isn't Calgary, NJ, or Philly.

They aren’t going to make their team and cap situation worse just to get younger, especially when the guys they’re trading are still in their primes. The Hawks were the youngest team in the playoffs this year. Their problem isn’t that they’re young, it’s that they need cap space and a better team structure. This gives them less cap space and a worse team structure.

CHI actually nets $2.725M in cap savings in this deal = more cap space.

And CHI also has the ability to flip one or both of Monahan and/or Gaudreau for other players/assets over the next 2-3 years...these players and contracts hold massive value.

They don’t though, because sure they replace a wing and a center, but they also lose a D that they don’t replace. They have to go out and get a top 4 dman, which isn’t happening with 2.7 mil.

Sure they could trade them for assets, but that isn’t a strategy that makes sense for the Hawks. They’re a young team, they should be bringing guys that fit long term, not guys they plan on trading within a year or two, and that would almost certainly be the case in this trade.

I’ll say it again, this deal makes the Hawks worse now and in the long run. It makes no sense for them.

Rittich (28) is 5 years younger than Stalock (33). And Rittich has more potential upside than Stalock does, so he's the more valuable asset in the deal. It works because it gives CGY a cheaper crease option that allows them to play Talbot 50-55 games during the regular season (he wants to be the starter somewhere), and it gives MIN an asset that could increase in value quite a bit as Rittich improves.

The issue with this is Stalock is the goaltender the Wild want to expose for the expansion draft(if they don’t trade him) while protecting Kahk who recently was a AHL goaltending all star.

Now is Rittich a Bonafide starter? If yes, that means the Wild May lose their top goaltending prospect who is a year or two away from getting the job in a Minnesota. To protect Rittich.

If he isn’t a starter, he is useless to Minnesota. Kahk most likely will be the backup next season so he needs to sit behind a starter and allow him to get 20 or more games to get use to speed of the NHL.

Most likely Minnesota will look for a 1-2 year deal for a starter like Talbot. Stalock can be used as a trade chip as a cheap backup for a sweetener. I don’t see him being used to grab another goalie when they could just as easily sign one.
