Carolina’s 1st, which the Rangers own, isn’t 13th, it’s 23rd rn. The 13th is Toronto’s, which Carolina owns. That pick you’re trading is the former, probably 23rd overall, just so you’re aware. I doubt Montreal wants Vlasic and that monster deal, even with retention. Someone will probably take Sorensen for that if Toronto doesn’t.

You could still resign Jumbo, as Kellman is in Europe & still upgrade the backup goalie, w/ the money you have left.

Just correcting your typo... Rangers (via Hurricanes) pick 21st overall, not 23rd. St. Louis and Washington have picks 22 and 23.

Labanc only had 7 goals and 11 assists last season. Considering Labanc's defensive issues make him more of a winger than center, I'd rather have Lemieux than Labanc. Not to mention including a 1st round pick in the trade.

The price SJ would have to pay to take on Vlasics contract, even at 5.5 million, would be far far more then a late first round pick

They can pick as high as 21 but that depends on DAL, NYI, and VAN all winning their second-round games.

Yeah I dont see the Rangers giving that pick up for anything but a top pair LD or a 2C. So that's a no from the Rangers.

I believe the highest DAL, NYI, and VAN, can pick is 24th overall. And the 4 teams eliminated in the 2nd round will draft 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th overall. The 2 teams eliminated in the 3rd round will draft 28th and 29th. While the 2 teams advancing to play for Lord Stanley's Cup will draft 30th and 31st. Regular season record only determines your draft order within the group of teams eliminated in the same playoff round.

I'm pretty sure the regular season has an effect on the draft order too? At least until the conference finals and beyond anyway? Lightning got first rounded last season and still picked 27th in the draft and CBJ pick was 19th despite them going further.

It would seem the Rangers will draft either 21st, 22nd, 23rd, or 24th. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the draft order.

"The current Stanley Cup champion always picks last, in 31st place, and the Stanley Cup runner-up picks 30th. The other two conference finalists pick 29th and 28th.

Regular-season division winners hold the other lowest positions. The remaining teams draft in order of the fewest points scored to most points from the previous regular season" (Live About Dot Com)
