Why are you cap dumping Alzner instead of just trading away Weal and just taking a minimum wage guy/prospect as our 7th dman?
Trading for 3 guys that need to be signed next summer would be dumb, twelve guys in your starting line up would need to get paid and with a flat cap it's not doable.

NJD would pass. Retain 50% on Alzner and make 1st round pick an unprotected 2021 1st. Otherwise, no go.

Where is Lehkonen playing on the Rangers? They have plenty of guys who can do what Lehkonen offers already in house.

Rangers have goalies on top of goalies, no need for Lindgren.

The 2nd is the only thing the Rangers would have any interest in.

Really?

Where do you put Alzner?! He is, at best, an AHL player. Ty Smith and Kevin Bahl have graduated from juniors, so they will either be on NHL or AHL roster. Don't want to block them. Which means NJD will have to buy Alzner out, hence request for 50% retention on Alzner.

And MTL picks at #16 this year. The 2020 draft is strong in the top-10, but thins out quickly, and is fairly weak draft class if you are picking after top-10. A number 16 pick in 2021 is worth far more than a number 16 pick in 2020.

You bury him, buy him out, or someone from the farm doesn't make the team out of training camp. Neither Smith or Bahl are locks for that and Smith has spent his entire juniors career playing on his offside. I think it's worth it for the extra 1st. I don't think they should stop at Alzner, either, in a quest to collect more 1sts.

It is a good strategy if doing it for 2021 1st picks. 2021 is a much better draft, especially at picks 11-31. Three 1sts is plenty this year unless you can get inside top-10 or top-12.

Dont be surprised if NJ does alot more of this honestly devils would accept it . I would do it but i doubt MB will trade a 1st for a cap dump.

I don't mind the Devils but Montreal shouldn't do it, we're in year 3 of a 3 year retool, trust the process and next year you can buy him out or trade him away to a cap friendly team for much less ...
Montreal isn't a contender and is in a position to take short term dump, not giving away picks for clearing cap to get Brodin who's a UFA. Makes no sense.
