With Pietrangelo likely to hit FA, I'm not sure which dman would then be available from St. Louis? If the plan is to try to keep him, they'd have to shed a couple or three contracts to even get close to making it work.

Re: Allen, he's a decent enough goalie, but I don't think you'd be happier with him than with Freddy. Obviously being a goalie in the NHL isn't easy, but I would assume that it's a significant difference playing behind Dunn, Parayko, Pietrangelo, Faulk, Gunnarsson, Scandella and Bortuzzo vs. the Leafs D.

Why even do this? both will be free agents at the same time. If Dubas is not keen on bringing back freddie he can just sign Allen during the offseason

A chance to get a little cap flexibility next year and get a guy acclimated to the team and see if he'll be worth the extension (which would be cheaper than a hypothetical Anderson extension) when his current deal is up. If you need to make a change for Anderson and you're not convinced he's going to improve next year, now is as good of time as any since you aren't extending him to trade for a goalie you might actually extend.

That said, if I was the leafs, idk if I'd be ready to make the call that Anderson is cooked.

You'd have to admit Allen lets in a lot more soft goals than most goalies with his skillset.

You said if you weren't happy with someone who let in soft goals, you're not going to like Allen. My response was meant to convey that literally every goaltender lets in soft goals occasionally.

Whether Allen does it more than others, IDK man maybe at one point but goalies are weird Allen's had a phenomenal last year and a half and is currently our starter in the playoffs, so

Except that's simply not true. Same as the claim that he lets in soft goals all the time. It's not 2018 anymore. This is old news, he's been murder for 18 months straight now. And his playoff GAA is one of the lowest in history. Watch him play, it's not the same goalie you're thinking of anymore. And I hate to break it to you, but his value is currently going up by the day.
