I hate to Break it to you, but Buffalo would never make this trade. Marner’s contract is insane, no one should take it. Risto and Reinhart can get us more elsewhere if we decide to trade them.

No one should make more than Eichel on this team. I am pretty sure if Marner were in Buffalo and Reinhart in Toronto they would put up the same points, but Marner would cost $3.5 million more a year. In the frozen cap NHL no one can afford to do that.

Marner makes so much money he costs as much as any teams second line should. There are maybe 5 players in the NHL worth $11 million or more per year and he’s not one of them.

There is a huge problem here, reinhart is not taking 4m. Flat cap or no, his agent had him take a crap sandwich for 2 years to get to this point, 2 years where he improved each year. I think realistically you need a high 6 or a 7 for the dollar amount, or you are looking at a holdout, which probably nullifies a deal if you are trading for his rights. Then you get to look at- reinhart at 7 vs marner at 10.5 and see which sucks less.

Trust me when I say this, but this trade wasn’t reactionary. Marner has not been a playoff performer in my opinion. In the 4 years of playoffs, I don’t see the same player that exudes confidence in the regular season. I was trying to get some value on a poor contract. You would need to be Houdini in order to satisfy Toronto fans.

Yeah, thats just a terrible evaluation of marners over all playoff performance and you cant pretend yiu have the leafs best interests in thought when you pretend a trade this bad would be a good option.

as a bruins fan... buffalo should do this in a heartbeat. reinhart going to come in north of 6 and hes half the player marner is. Toronto fans expecting marner to be a playoff scorer is crazy seeing how hes a setup guy. if nobody puts the puck in the net he doesnt get points. he isnt a shoot first forward. Reinhart on the other hand is and while hes progressively gotten better. i dont think he gets MUCH better at all than what hes been doing, i think his ceiling is right around 60ish points. last year might be his best year career wise. and Risto just blows.

why is this a go to for people who make terrible trades? seriously. Is it so hard for you to grasp that that there are literally a million ways to make the leafs better than to downgrade significantly at forward and not take on a worse contract for a player who they dont need in ristolainen?
Like, how about trade marner for an actual good defender, or how about trade their depth for a couple ok RHD like weegar or whatever? like there are literally dozens of proposals out there that do this so much better.

The point of my trade is to express the fact that if you trade Marner, you probably won’t get full value. In a cap world, all teams will need to shed cap. At least your response was educational and logical. Not like most of the other blow-yards on here.

no but you gotta have at least 1 if not 2... toronto has 0. Muzzin is good not elite. chicago: keith and seabrook, supporting cast of hjalmarsson (def spelled wrong but you get the idea) and daley (when he was good). Kings: Doughty and voynov/muzzin (voynov was going to be so so good in this league before the whole domestic violence thing.) not to mention their deep d corps and solid back checking forwards... you could say the worst of the last decade dcorp wise was pittsburgh but letang, schultz, cole, dumo is still better than any 4 player combo the leafs have rocked over the last 3 years...

And yes, unpopular opinion amongst leaf fans, but morgan reilly is not elite. great offensively but not elite.

the leafs have two legitimate very good defencemen in Muzzin and Rielly. to pretend otherwise is lying to yourself. If you were to add, let's just go with two of the favourites around here Severson and Weegar on the right side that would give this team with it's offence as good a shot at winning the cup outside like 3 other teams in the league.

rielly is not good in his own end defensively. im not lying to anyone, he is vastly overrated due mostly to his insane shot percentage and 20 goal season last year.

Weegar and Severson....the answer to the Leafs prayers.

Did you know that Dermot and Holl are 29th & 33rd in +/- compared to Weegar’s & Severson’s 74th & 297th. I think you better reach higher than them in order to bring the cup to Toronto after all these years.
