My Ideal 2020-2021 MN Wild

Créé par: KoeberBrick
Équipe: 2020-21 Wild du Minnesota
Date de création initiale: 9 août 2020
Publié: 9 août 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Please be aware of the following:
- These are based on my opinion
- This scenario depends on:
- PIT not keeping their pick (PIT might not want to risk giving MN next years pick with players potentially missing time to COVID 19)
- MN winning the lottery

Trades Reasoning:
- Detroit: MN open room for Kappo, DET could look to move on from Jimmy Howard and get a serviceable goaltender
- Ottawa: MN needs centers and may not be able to resign Brodin (cap reasons), OTT needs a top 4 defense and would still pick at #2
- Edmenton: MN has too many wingers for Donato to get valuable playing time, EDM gets a goal scoring winger with upside (at this point I want him to get a chance anywhere)

Mock Draft: Top 15
#1 Minnesota Wild - LW Alexis Lafreniere
#2 Los Angeles Kings – C Quinton Byfield
#3 Ottawa Senators – C Tim Stutzle
#4 Detroit Red Wings – D Jamie Drysdale
#5 Minnesota Wild – C Marco Rossi **From Trade**

#7 New Jersey Devils – RW Jack Quinn
#8 Buffalo Sabres – C Cole Perfetti
#9 Winnipeg Jets - D Jake Sanderson
#10 New York Rangers - RW Alexander Holtz
#11 Florida Panthers - C Anton Lundell

What’s the deal with Boldy? As a kings fan and them short on LW I’m curious if there’s a trade to be made? 🤨

As an oilers fan you completely nailed who I’d be targeting in the draft but seems like a stretch to still be there. If oilers win lottery I’d consider trading down just to get him. Pretty clear that’s a huge area of need for the club if able to land him I’d be a lot more ok with rolling out kosk next year at least knowing there is a solid plan in place to replace.

Couple of things.

1) The Wild have $16.2M in available cap space this upcoming offseason. $42.1M next year after that. We're not hurting for cap space, even with large contracts coming up in the next couple of years.

So there is literally no reason to think we can't resign Brodin, it'll likely just take place after the expansion draft is all.

2) I like where your head's at. I love what you did here. But I don't see OTT pulling the trigger on that deal. Not when they can grab either Byfield/Stutzle at 3rd ova and Raymond with the 5th.

Just my opinion of course.

Cheers! cool

I feel like Pittsburgh is going to elect to keep their 2020 1st round pick and send us their 2021 1st instead. Plus, I feel like Ottawa could use RD more than LD, so maybe it'd work with Dumba, but either way, I don't see them moving that 5th overall pick, especially along with Norris, who I imagine they value very highly. As for the other trades, I'm open to moving Donato with how much LW depth the Wild have, especially if we get Lafreniere, and I doubt we'll move Stalock. I would guess he's the goalie we leave exposed in the Seattle expansion draft.

Thanks for the feedback!

1) The reason why i said MN may not be able to resign Brodin is that Kaprisov, Fiala, and EK will be RFA's and Staal, Foligno, Hartman will be UFA's and i think there can be a debate to resign them all (or for how much). How much will they take up in the cap or for how many years is unknown but I imagine Fial will be spendy. I also think that Dumba or Brodin could be lost at the Seattle expansion draft, my opinion is to trade Brodin because the contract will be easier to trade.

2) The goal was to make it tempting, I also think that this trade could accelerate where OTT is in their rebuild. They get a great top 4 d-man and a decent winger for moving back 10 spots in the draft.

That's fair. I tried to pick a team that could use goaltender, I think that some team will look at Stalock because how he played this season on a league minimum contract

I think the goalie market is very flooded in ufa and a few teams are carrying 3, I don't think any team is going to get fair value for their goalies in a trade right now,

Thanks for the feeback! I find it hard to gauge where he Askarov will go. I can see BUF picking him at #8 but I definitely believe that if hes available EDM will pick him.

That's a fair assessment. I think that if MN can get something close to market for Stalock or Dubnyk they should pull the trigger. Stalock will be easier to trade and its more valuable to see if Kappo is an NHL caliber goaltender rather than keeping him in the minors

Detroit won't be picking Jamie Drysdale...I'd like them too, but they already have their top 2 RHD pairings set in defensive prospects/young guns: Hronek & Seider.

I hope they take Rossi or work a trade with LA so the Kings take Drysdale and the Wings get Byfield.

Boldy will be back playing in college next season (whenever that is). Im quite fond of him so I wouldn't like seeing him traded but it would be interesting seeing him reunited with another USNDTP player

OTT declines.

Norris is a big part of the rebuild, LBrown is more expendable

Thats not the problem though, its the #5. We need to swing on elite talent and thats not enough to warrant moving down.

Not to mention that Seattle will be picking off a couple goalies for nothing unless those teams trade for even pennies on the dollar. And if a team waits until the deadline those values decline further.

I don't doubt he's a huge part of their rebuild. If there is something that would really stop the trade in its tracks it would be having Norris in, a worse prospect would make it more likely. My point of view on it is that OTT needs a top 4 D and I definitely think that they can still take a swing on a good prospect at #15, in a deep draft, that could have great upside. Thanks for the feedback!

Its definitely not just Norris. That 5 is going to be VERY hard to pry from OTT hands.

We have 4 second rounds, and were gonna likely gonna move up with 2 of them using 3rds (Dorion has never drafted in the 3rd round) and the islanders 1st as well. Were gonna have lots of opportunity to take swings top 4D prospects.

I mean, we could take Drysdale at 4 or trade down to 10 and take Sanderon (the only 2 D worth taking in the top 20).

OTT is not at the point in our rebuild to trade top draft picks or top C prospects.

Thanks for the feedback! I can see the PIT decision both ways but if i was a PIT fan i would worry about the unprotected 2021 1st if they kept it. With Covid 19 possibly taking out members of a team for 2 weeks or more it could be risky. Dubnyk could be resigned to be exposed in the draft (maybe he has some kind of return to form, who knows?), either way I think its more valuable for MN to see if Kappo can handle the NHL rather than have him play ll season in the minors.

I think your point is fair. While i do think it may be a bit early for them to trade away assets the trade could make them more competitive. There's something interesting about trading unproven players for proven players. either way this is all hypothetical and meant to start debate, I knew someone would be against it smile

The package is a very attractive one, OTT just isnt the right target. Teams like Toronto hurting for D would be better
