Would probably take significant overpay to land one of the games more complete centres.

Exactly why I would want him because he’s so good two way. What do you think he would cost the Rangers?

Yeah and even then it would likely be just for 1 year as the Habs would immediately try resigning him in FA and I am sure he would want to return home

WIth Kotkaniemi and Suzuki emerging in the playoffs, I'd say it makes sense from the habs side, not sure why the Rangers would want to give up a 50 point D man when they already have decent center depth too

I would think they keep him. Up until this point Habs were perceived as a joke or a team that needed more time to become a contender. They just knocked out one of the best teams in the NHL. On paper there wasn’t a better team in the playoffs. I say they keep and and sign him. Guy is a stud and a great example for the young players in the organization

Here’s the deal: we do not have good center depth by any means. Strome is solid offensively but not nearly enough defensively. Same applies to Zibanejad who is elite offensively but bad defensively. Chytil is not bad in his own end, and good offensively, but not fully developed. Our lack of two way-skill, especially down the middle, really cost us in the qualifiers. Tony DeAngelo is someone who’s gonna want a big contract and he’s not very good defensively although he’s one of the best pure offensive defensemen in the league. We have Fox, Trouba, and Lundkvist at RD, so we really have no room for Tony D.

I think this is the most likely scenario but with Suzuki being so good and surprisingly also a beast in his own end and the emergence of Kotkaniemi, it makes you wonder if they consider moving Danault.

We wouldn’t trade for him unless we have an extension of some sort negotiated

Then it would seriously cost you. Like almost not worth it for you, cost you. Think something like

Both 2020 1st's + Deangelo, Chytil or Fast in that order. Like I said serious overpay and not worth it to the rangers

Why? Having 3 centers that are really good makes this team elite. Why trade something you’ll need eventually. if PD plays 3c they can use him as a shutdownline. Injuries are a part of the game helps having multiple centers. Capitals had Eller play 2c when backstrom got hurt during the cup win.

Maybe but it's what it would take for the Habs to move Danault to an Eastern conference rival with an extention in hand. A west team likely has to pay 2020 1st + A+ Prospect + top 4 LHD so yeah an East team is going to have to pay HUGE

110% not for that return
Habs should resign Danault for $5M per for 3-5 years as #3C ( a Guy Carbonneau prototype)

Trade him. I’d rather have a 3 top 2 than 2 and a push 3c. If he’s that good trade him to improve other areas. Don’t underestimate the value of a vet. Cough cough Weber

Honestly you would have better luck trying to get Weber or Price than Danault. But if your looking for a good defensive center the Habs would listen to offers for Poehling or Domi if you want a good offensive 2C

I don’t see how it would cost that much for a guy who the Habs have on their 3rd line. I agree that he’s amazing but that’s way over.

You certainly have a point but they also have Domi and Poehling and Danault’s contract expires next summer. Also, Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, and Romanav will be finishing off their ELCs soon so they’ll need to be paid which puts the Habs in a position to move someone.

27 year old, 50+ point, elite defensive Center who just shut down Crosby and Malkin for 4 straight games. Also has been in the Selke conversation for the last 3 years. Yeah they are easy to find! Good luck!

That's easy you move guys like Armia, Lehkonen, Tatar, Domi, Petry, Chiarot or Mete before Danault

He played the whole season on the first line but you are trying to call him a 3rd line center because he played 2 games with Lekhonen and Byron to neutralize Crosby.

Danault isnt going anywhere.

Pay him 6.5m trade Domi for draft picks or a pick. Heard Buffalo would trade the 8oa + montour for a 2c. That could be Domi, right? Poehling Do a sprong Peterson trade or a Joki Nylander trade.

I think the Habs would rather play Danault at RHD than trade for DeAngelo. Lol. But if this somehow became possible the Rangers take it obviously
