The Light at the end of the tunnel 1st Pick

Description
Dreaming that Montreal finally drafts their first overall pick in 30 years and select Alexis Lafrenière. This pick will fast forward Montreal to a playoff position in 2020-2021 hopefully.

* Offensively Montreal will have 4 four balanced lines.

- With Suzuki officially being the Center#2.

- Danault keeps his spot as #1 by default - neither Suzuki, KK or Domi can show as much maturity and consistency yet.

- With Poehling and Evans as backups when needed, Montreal will have deep formation at center.

- Kovalchuk... He's old. If we can sign a better UFA or trade for a top 6 right wing then we have too. Leaving a first round pick in the table is a must.

* Defensively will be tough for Montreal unless a trade happens before/during the season. Thus getting Vince Dunn will give a bit more of offensive punch from the D. Two second round picks might be a lot (with Jake Allen and his 4M).

- Vince Dunn for 3.85M$ and 2 years. Will stay RFA after the contract. No risks here. If he underperforms, will sign for less. If he performs well, will get a bonus.

- Jake Allen with a 2M retained salary should value a late 2nd pick from Pittsburgh (i think).

- Chiarot and Weber are not fast enough to compensate playing with each other. I dont know how "good" Dunn is defensively but will try pairing him with Weber.

- Mete shows no signs of improvement over the years and just looks like he already hit his "plateau" - maximum potential. (may finish his season at Laval). Better for his development.

*Backup Goalie Race
- McNiven looks really good. Will probably get a chance this year to perform as a backup to Price. I'm eager to see how Lindgren/McNiven battle will end up. I don't think Montreal should spend for a better UFA goalie. Lets give the young guys a chance and its cheaper.

50/50 on the Dunn Trade
50/50 on the hawks deal, but I’m leaning towards no,

Very good In Depth Detail though

I agree mostly on your team but 2 things ; Domi (underpaid) and Kokt have to be in the top 9. So, one of Suzuki or Domi on wing (Danault and Kotkaniemi won’t change position... kk would be awful at W.

Finally, mete is not dog ****. He made the NHL so young and he ´s a decent 5th D for now . I this believe he can be a good 4th D on the second pair... which is good

I agree we could find a younger player instead of kovy.

I can’t see the Blues accepting. I mean the chances of them finding players as good as Allen and Dunn with those picks is incredibly slim. Sure they need cap space, but Dunn will be pretty cheap given his role this year and Allen will not be hard enough to move that it would cost Dunn.

I don’t think Mete and a 2 Million Dollar Allen is worth of pick 50-61

Mete is not dog ****. Never said that. But he is not improving in the NHL right now. He either has to be traded or goes back to Laval (I think he might have to pass the waivers at this point which is bad). It depends how Romanov ends up playing. If he's really good, Mete's job is probably done with MTL. Otherwise, Romanov might go for a few months in the AHL. And then come back at the middle/end of the season to take Mete's job. I just see Romanov as a young LD and Mete as another young LD and only one of them is going to get to play.

I agree with you a bit. I think Dunn should and can be worth a 1st pick. However, St-Louis needs to find a team that can take Allen and his 4.3M completely and I think Montreal has both needs. They need LD and cap space. If 2 second round picks aren't enough, what would you give ?

There’s just no reason to trade Dunn without an incredibly kushy return. He’s a fantastic defenseman who won’t make more than 3 million dollars for the next two seasons and If they trade him their left-side is Gunnarsson (awful this year) Scandella (awful for the two years before this) and Perunovich/Mikkola (5 games played.) As for Allen, you hope there’s a team that would pay for a .927 goalie but it’s no issue tossing in a 3rd round pick if no one else will.

Maybe drouin for a 4th and Dunn but realistically both teams would prefer their respective player.

I have arguments that our best LHD is Dunn and I wouldn’t be interested in trading him for picks that would be going backwards on what we are trying to do Steen and Bozak are the guys out most likely

Why on earth would STL give away Dunn to get rid of Allen if they can trade him directly to Chicago for a second?

Also Mcniven and Lingren sucks. Can afford to let them play swiss cheese and miss the playoff because getting a good second goalie was neglected. Need to learn from the last 3 years buddy.

2M$ retained salary. Habs keep 2M$ of his contract.

And 2M$ retained salary is worth Vince Dunn? That's your point? You really want to dug your heels in that?

Thank you for taking your time to answer me, but I'm Dunn smile

hahahaha but like I said in another comment Dunn can and should be worth a 1st pick. Playing with cap space (because Blues are tight) It might be interesting for MTL.
