Fixing the Cap situation v2

Description
As a fan of both these teams I think this deal is more than fair for both sides and makes them both better. Detroit needs a goalie for the future and the Canucks need cap space. Some Det fans seem to think theyre going to fleece everyone heavily on these trades but the fact is there really isnt a whole lot of other options for Detroit here to get their guy. They get two really good young players who can help now and despite what some people think Louie also males this team better easily making the lineup. These teams align perfectly with one another to make this trade happen. Kole Lind has really impressed this season and has taken another step at our summer camp. He looks ready to play next season as well.

Jordie Benn is an upgrade over Hutton for sure. He also fits the Kings style of play on Defense.

The Virtanen trade makes Montreal instantly better. They also have 2 more second round picks to add young players to the system

Balcers replaces Sven in Utica and gives the Comets a roster player for a year.
OTT
  1. Baertschi, Sven
  2. Stecher, Troy [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
This trade makes the Sens better right away and frees up some cap space for the Canucks. Sven and Stecher wpuld serve as great spot holders for all the young draft picks this team has and allows them to develop them vs bringing them up too soon.
4.
VAN
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
Canucks are strapped for cash which will make it very tough to keep everyone. Tough to trade this kid but I think he might be the odd man out as trading him should return some value vs other guys we could move.
MTL
  1. Virtanen, Jake [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Trade is made at the draft, assuming the Canadiens dont win the 2nd lottery and the pick falls in the 40-47 zone. Jake adds an element of size to a small group of forwards and brings plenty of speed along with him that fits the Habs style of play well.

Detroit's not taking Demko then trading our only other Goalie in Bernier. We can't afford that.

You’re undervaluing Virtanen. The Detroit trade is interesting since you’d be taking back 3M in cap but with your bonus would carryover. I’d prefer Hoglander as I think him and Grewe would make teams extremely salty but they’re both good.

Instead of spending 10m on two UFAs, Toffelli and Tanev just keep some of the younger guys.

Of course they can.. Howard would be a solid 1 yr mentor and backup to him. Or the Wings could sign a ufa backup for the year there are plenty of solid guys available.

Cause Toffoli and Tanev make the team alot better than Virtanen and Stecher IMO. Both of those guys have been beat out of special teams roles and only play 5v5 minutes.

HA. How does that trade make the SENS better? I'd rather just take the money it would cost us to sign Stecher to a one-year deal and re-up Hainsey or some other UFA while NOT taking Baertschi and NOT giving up Balcers. You can pretend he's got no value but he just turned 23 in April and has 115 points in 143 AHL games. He still has NHL potential.

I don’t think van would need to include Lind in that deal. I understand cap dump but the part that gets lost when dumping cap is it doesn’t really cost huge prices to do so. Term is harder to dump and he doesn’t have any term that would be problem to digest while adding a player that could be very capable of playing a depth role. Would Detroit really say no and risk loosing out on that option to Ottawa who could also use a young goalie with upside and nhl experience I think not. This site dramatically over values cap dumps while I don’t think you dramatically went crazy here it’s still more than I think Is actually needed.

We’re not trading for that piece of crap Virtanen. The habs aren’t in the business of trading for problem players, especially one that’s a healthy scratch, and that high 2nd could be a great way to fill our need at RHD.

I dont think you know the player very well if you're calling him a piece of crap. He's a healthy scratch? I didnt realize the playoffs had already started.. Kid had 18G, 18A this year and showed a ton of improvement. Would love to keep him around but we have too many **** contracts and theres no way we can move enough of them to resign all of our ufas n rfas.

Sven is an NHL player, Balcers is not. Nikolay Goldobin was a point per game player in the AHL, so was Reid Boucher. Doesnt necesarily mean it automatically translates to value. And neither of them could make the jump to the National League.

Whether Virtanen ends up as a scratch in the playoffs or not, this points to a larger issue with his attitude and mindset. He’s clearly skilled enough to make the Canucks roster, so there’s obviously a problem. And I would never bring in a player with as much disregard for people’s lives as a person who goes out to a nightclub without a mask, and it being just a few weeks away from him re-joining his teammates.

Yes, I would call someone that risks the lives of himself AND the people around him, a piece of crap.

Sven cleared waivers TWICE already this season, so let's not pretend any team will give something up to get him when no one took him for free. As I've already said, our money is better spent elsewhere. And Stecher is just Chris WIdeman in a different jersey. NO THANKS.
