Caggiula is a useful enough depth forward, but Ottawa already has more depth forwards than they know what to do with. Josh Norris, Drake Batherson, Logan Brown, and Rudolfs Balcers all scored over a point-per-game in the AHL, while Nicholas Paul finally graduated to the NHL. Some of those players also had extended NHL call-ups, and most of these forwards will be on the Senators' NHL roster next season. Especially with Bobby Ryan healthy again, there's not much room for a guy like Caggiula. It's just not a good enough fit for the Senators (a rebuilding team) to justify trading back.
Florida might make for a better trade partner. They'll be right up against the cap (assuming they re-sign most of their UFAs), but they don't have many inexpensive young players who are ready for depth roles in the NHL. A cheap, versatile forward like Cagiulla could fit into their bottom 6.
