Why would the Kings do this? Kopitar is a Cup winner that can shepherd Villardi, Turcotte etc... while taking the top line match ups. Makes zero sense for the Kings.

Except Getzlaf doesn't put up 60/70+ points every year like Kopitar... Kopitar has barely slowed down. He has only gotten under 60 points twice in his career, during the 2013 lockout where he put up 42 points in 47 games and 2016 when he put up 54 points. The rest are 60/70/80/90+ point seasons. Highly unlikely Kotkaniemi ever has a track record like that.

The argument isn't whether Kot will reach his potential, it is whether or not the value is close for Kopitar and I was explaining to the guy Kot, Caufield, and a 1st is accurate value for Kopitar now other than this nonsense above.

Use your head, no one will trade a young top prospect for an aging Kopitar. Yes he’s still good, but 4 years of Kopitar isn’t worth trading one ( not 2 or 3 ) of our best prospect. Anyway MTL isn’t contenders so it’s useless because we’re not going all in. Maybe another team could trade their 1st + good prospect if they think they can win it with Anze, otherwize its bad management #GomezvsMcDonagh

First part, there has never been any real trade rumors regarding Kopitar so there isn't any way for us to tell who he would waive for and who he wouldn't. Montreal is on the break of being a legit playoff team within the next 2 years maybe even next year. Kings are looking at 3 or 4 years. So you can't really say there's no way he would waive.

Second part, you are right.

I am using my head. You can make the argument that Kopitar isn't the guy for Montreal, but if you're going to sit there and tell me that any trade proposal from Montreal for Kopitar doesn't start with Caufield, 2020 1st + then you are incredibly mistaken.
