MTL give up their best point player to move up ~20 spots + Graves who might be a Brett Kulak + 2021 2nd rd pick ... Bergevin want to do the playoffs next year so he won’t trade Tatar for future this summer. Value wise it’s good, but not what our GM is looking for

Don't think the Smith trade's worth a 2nd... he's got 1 year left, and his actual salary's only 2.35 mil for this season, so a team like Ottawa could benefit from getting a high cap hit with lower salary... The Rangers would obviously still have to pay to move him, but a 3rd or meh prospect seems better. And he could be reflipped at the deadline by Ottawa with retention to a contender as a depth dman.

I mean it's certainly a risk but this is a deep draft and I feel like next summer MTL are unlikely to re-sign all of Danault, Gallagher, Tatar and Petry. To me Tatar is the most expendable of those 4.

There are likely deals out there with less risk but I feel like the potential rewards could be more valuable than 1 year with Tatar followed by him leaving in UFA in the long run.

Ideally, I'd want to package bean with a 1st and some othier pieces for a big forward who can help ammend our scroing woes. Someone like Mantha, or Larkin ideally. In a 1-for-1 bean for Jost is just lateral, because Carolina would still have to expose Jost in the expansion draft
