I don't think TO needs to do anything to have the best top 6 in the NHL. They very well could have 4 players in the top 20 in scoring next season. I also don't think you put another goal scorer with Matthews, he's the trigger man, Marner the playmaker and having someone who can crash the net and make it even just a little harder for the goalie to track Matthews shot means even more goals for Matthews. Hyman was fantastic with Matthews and Marner. I am sure you could upgrade him but he is the type of complimentary piece that helps maximize the skills of the other two. Having JT, Nylander and Mikheyev on the second line is hilarious. JT is a top centre on more than half the teams in the NHL. Nylander is the best player on a lot of teams in the NHL, certainly the best winger on a lot of teams and thats the 2nd line. I like the idea but I just don't think it would be an effective way of distributing the talent on the team. Perhaps have Svech with JT and whoever.

The canes would laugh in your face. The only way this could happen would be is if his RFA demands were insane, and the leafs add a first rounder and their top prospect. Svechnikov is taking off.

Canes reject easy.

Trading nylander is exactly what must be done

Every Cane is better than every other player in the league. We get it, your entire house is Red and White with Canes memorabilia. Svech is probably also the best goal scorer in the game and is just a year away from winning every trophy in hockey.

How? Marner is better, easily.

Why? So they can get an old right handed defenceman who doesn't make the team any better? Nylander is on a steal of a contract and is a terrific player. Why trade him to appease people who think Babs was right.

Canes would never make that deal, and if you hadn't noticed, Leafs need help in other areas of their play.

They are both terrific. Svech is a better goal scorer and Marner the better playmaker. Marner will likely out score Svech over his career but who cares.

They need more time under Keefe and they need to get luckier with injuries. Next years roster is looking terrific. More time under Keefe's system will fix the defensive issues and this team is going to take a run at the Presidents trophy. I agree this trade wouldn't happen but not because one player is so much better than the other, its because neither would have any reason to do this. Nylander fits in TO like a glove, they aren't moving him. In fact, I'd wager TO doesn't make any bold moves this offseason. One of Kerfoot, Kapanen or Johnsson will get moved to open up some cap and roster space for Barbarov and maybe Robertson but beyond that, this team is going to be better than it was this season. If the defence melds together well, it could be much much better.

That guy is likely the biggest homer on this site. According to him the best defenceman in hockey hands down is Hamilton, second best is Pesce. Aho is right up there with McDavid, McKinnon and Matthews and is better than Eichel, Petterson and Barkov. Svech in his mind is definitely the best goalscorer in the world and you get the rest. He is also totally unaware that he has any bias.

so many things you said were right if nylander was a superstar but IMO he is not.
his contract was made for him to be traded.

What a load of ****, how does having a good contract mean it was made to be traded? Especially when the guy who made the contract happen also says he isn't going to trade Nylander. He isn't getting moved, its just old school cement heads that think Wilson hurting guys every year is good for hockey who want to trade him or leaf haters who just want to see it all burn because they don't want to admit TO is going in the right direction. If you get an elite player (Nylander is that, top 25 in scoring chance generation since he entered the league) you don't move them.

Where did I say that then? Don't put words into my mouth. All I'm saying is when he's not a teenager anymore and fully develops, he will be the best winger in Toronto. There's not a world in which that isn't true. Svechnikov isn't the best goalscorer in the game don't be stupid. As for my whole house being red and white with Canes memorabilia, 1) the canes play in Red and Black, 2) No. Svechnikov's analytics are among the best in the league going forward. With his hands, they do more than represent "fAnCy StAtS" Svechnikov has the ability to outperform his analytics as some of the higher end players can do (Eichel for example). Svechnikov doing the same? Yeah, Easily better than Marner.
