I don't get why people say stuff they 100% is just bull**** and pretend they are smart for saying it? JT has been money for 70-80+ points his entire career and is 29. He's also a guy who as he ages won't have to carry everyone around him. Since you know TO already has Matthews, Marner, and Nylander who will take a tonne of pressure and responsibility from Tavares. He'll pile put points for his entire contract, because by the halfway mark, the younger guys will carry him a little. You probably know this as well, so saying otherwise is really just bitter and childish.

Players like Tavares who fall off in their early to mid 30's generally are guys who once carried lesser players but as they get older just can't carry others as much. JT will never have that problem. Already, Matthews is better and with Marner and Nylander as well JT will never have to worry about being alone trying to lift a franchise on his own. Getzlaf didn't have half as much talent in recent years as JT will have for his entire contract and he was still a good contributor until this year. JT will be a lock for 70-90 points for most if not all his contract.

He has 5 years left on his contract and the 5th year he turns 30 at the beginning of it. So he is signed through 35. He also has immense talent surrounding him which will ease his decline in a huge way. Look at Getzlaf, that guy had no one and still put up 70 points. JT will be playing against 2nd liners while Matthews does the hard lifting in the future.

As a MTL fan... I wouldn't trade for Tavares in helping Toronto Cap hell they are IN.
I would spend more bluechips on a guy like Eichel to make sure I compete against Toronto for many more years

The Leafs are not in cap hell, Tampa is in cap hell, the Islanders very soon will be in cap hell. Edmonton is in cap hell. Teams that have multiple bad contracts that you just can't move are in cap hell. TO is against the cap sure, but they also have no bad contracts and crazy depth up front. Their defence is underrated and their window is open for years to come. The Leafs won't trade Tavares, he's awesome and he is exactly what Montreal has needed for over a decade. A franchise centre. That is exactly what Montreal has needed for year, a franchise centre and yet you say this nonsense. Let's just be reasonable an honest with ourselves.

kinda funny now given San Jose needs offense and Toronto needs defense, especially RDs

i like how no one put trades but just thought that tavares is not that good. hes consistently around a point per game and was that this year but was injured and isnt the 1C in toronto but he would be in mtl, min, cal, ott, det and probably some other teams.
