Leaf's PK is already subpar, moving Kapanen makes it worse. He wont be traded

Well let me introduce you to my very good friend Jujhar Khaira!
Literally the only thing he does is kill penalties at an above subpar rate!

You can discuss that with Leafs fans, they seem to be trying to nab Jankowski for pennies right now though

No from Leafs. If you want Kapanen, its gonna be Bear + Puljujarvi at minimum.

I wouldn't do Bear of Kappy 1-on-1 if I were EDM. Good RHDs are scarce, but there's much more mid-6 wingers available.

Scarce, but 25 out of 31 teams have at least two of them.

Sadly Oilers does not belong to them, making Bear very hard to move.

Bear, Bouchard, Larsson.. maybe Bouchard is untouchable, still making it two. It would be easy to move Bear, but Leafs wont do Kap and Bear 1 for 1..

No reason for Ottawa to do that. Gaborik is a bigger cap hit, and because his contract is insured, they don't have to pay him very much.

Why does Ottawa want Russel and his cap/play. Gaborik doesn't hurt Sens at all, so more silly LTIR trading. Besides Russel can easily block a trade to Ottawa.
Actually the Leafs might like the trade proposed. If the Leafs are desperate for a RHD and think Benning is fair value at 1.9m, and Puljarvi can be signed for a 1m or so. then it might be cap efficient for the Leafs and just maybe they get two NHLers for Kapanen. Kapanen would be the best player traded but the Leafs need cap space and they do have RWers (hopefully) that can fill Kapanen's spot.

No, I don't think real Leaf fans have any interest in Jankowksi. It's a CapFriendly thing, they see a trade of Jankowski/Leaf trade and then folks pile on trying to make a better trade
He's 25 years old, makes a minimum of 1.675 munder his new contract and had 7 points in 56 games. What's in for the Leafs? Leafs have, Kerfoot Gauthier, Engvall and maybe Spezza and bottom end centres. Heck even the much maligned Gauthier had 12 points in 61 points

You really think its unrealistic for him to bounce back to a 30 point player? Besides why do the leafs need to worry about his offensive production? He helps fix their lacking PK.

Leafs PK problems wasn't because of the forwards but because of the Dmen. Barrie and Reilly can't/weren't used on the PK. Muzzin who was the Leaf best Dman missed time on LTIR. S

Leafs PK problems weren't because of the forwards, it was the Dmen. Barrie and Reilly just can't and weren't used on the PK. Muzzin the Leafs best Dman was on LTIR for long stretches.
So that left Ceci (who is gone), Holl, Dermot and when he played Marincin to carry the PK load.
Trouble with Jankowski is the bounce back theory. Besides, if the Leafs do have an injury to Matthews or Tavares do you really think Jankowski can be effective moving up lineup? That' one reason I don't think Kerfoot should not be traded. He's needed at centre.

Im not saying anything about moving kerfoot however I do have some disagreement there. I think if AM were to go down again Nylander/Marner can be shifted to the 2C role and Kapanen can be moved up. This is one of the main reasons i think moving Kap is a big mistake. Hes one of your main PKing forwards and the team doesnt have that many already. Tavares can probably step in as he played some PK time in NY but outside of Marner, Kapanen, and Hyman it was a rotation of league minimum forwards.

Bear is on par with Rasmus Andersson and Flames wouldnt move Ras for Kapanen +. I do agree that Leafs shouldnt move him for anything but an overpayment though.

For Kappy, I would take Benning Puljujarvi and Khaira. It’s a fairy fair deal. Benning is an alright bottom pairing RHD, Puljujarvi still has tons of upside and Khaira is a great PK guy and has a bit of grit to his game!

Not when you REALLY think about it. Puljujarvi most likely needed a change of scenery (he’s been great in Europe), and could slot in to where Kapanen is. Khaira brings a bit of a gritty edge to that bottom 6 whole also being a good PK guy and Benning is a RHD that is actually better than people give him credit for and could slot into the bottom pair with Sandin just fine. He’s got speed and size to his game, he just needs to use it more.

Kapanen is so underrated on this sight. Jesse hasn't proven anything outside of North America. JJ bring nothing but grit. He is so bad that it isn't even worth it.
Benning is a bottom pairing d man and hasn't even played good. That's why Edmonton wants to trade him so bad

Ok but Kapanen isn’t super underrated because I know what he will fetch. You make it seem like he can get you a first and a second or something, but that’s actually a fair deal that stays in the cap realm as well.

Please explain how he isn't worth a first and second
Kapanen can put up 40 points a 20 goals If his minutes aren't cut. Kase got a first why can't Kapanen? Kapanen would be a top 6 forward if the big 4 weren't in his way
If you need utility he plays on the pk and pp
If you need grit he can put some hits and fights
if you need speed Kapanen is the fastest on the leafs.
If you need a good cheap contract Kapanen is perfect.
How is his value so low?

Kapanen will get you a first at the deadline, but he won’t in the off season. Kase Goodrow and Coleman were all deadline deals. Preferable, I wouldn’t look to trade Kapanen because I really like him, but his value isn’t as high as you think because he still only really stays on that third line

I think your over estimating Kappy here, and under estimating how solid a young D Benning is. It’s not that off and fits with the cap. You guys need some Defense
