Creating Cap space CBO

Description
There have been reports about the cap going up slightly. I can't see it going above 83 million. If it goes up I see 82.5 million as a very realistic number.

They have 4.4 million to acquire a partner for rielly or they can move Johnsson and have 7 million. There is tons of cap space if the cap goes up 1 million or even if it stays the same

If the cap goes up it will be frozen their for a few years.
That is a huge overpayment for a guy who has had a terrible year. He is worth a 4th liner and a 4th.

Having Hossa doesn't help or hurt the Leafs cap at all. You just cost the Leaf owners millions of dollars by CBO Kesselshakes head
Jankowski is just not good. He can't play 3C...maybe not an NHLer at all.

We will get value. Arizona can't afford to have Hossa on Ltir. Maybe we can get a pick or something

Can you link the reports about the cap going up? I couldn't find them.

Also that Flames trade isn't good. Jankowski has a 1.8M QO and he's played like a 4th liner this year.

You don't understand LTIR. Players on LTIR especially for whole season don't help or hurt a teams cap. And why would it hurt Arizona financially?
You have traded a cheap but ineffective Malgin for a player on LTIR and cost the Leafs owners with a multi million CBO in Kessel. Sorry, that horrid for the Leafs.

Hossa only has 1m let to be paid on his contract... Likely wont get much to take that on. Why are we not getting anything in the ARI trade?

1.2 million in cap space helps a ton

When the leafs are so tight to the cap 1.2 million would make a big difference

No Jack. Having Hossa does not make any difference to the cap. Folks are just so silly about how having players LTIR helps the cap.
Having LTIR Horton for years never helped the Leaf cap. Not having Clarkson when the trade was made 6 years ago...helped the Leafs cap.

Betting on Arizona to buyout kessel would be risky. If he isnt bought out the leafs would be forced to keep his retained salary from the Pittsburgh trade. If they bought him out they would regain the 15% or 1.2 million of cap space

I betcha a the Leaf still have to retain that 1.2m regardless of Kessel buyout.

As a Flames fan I would decline, Jankowski will bounce back to 30 points and is a very effective PKer. I value the 3rd and cap space more. As Kerfoot is a 4C in CGY.

This is horribad for Arizona. Hossa is owed chump change

yeah i think someone mentioned it could either be 81.5 for 2 years (2019-2021) or if they raised it to say 83 it would be for 3 additional years (2020-2023). Personally I would rather the cap stays the same cause if the league can recover in 2021 the cap may be able to go to 85mill especially with Seattle coming in generating more revenue.

Arizona has a smaller market, and thus less money. Toronto is a juggernaut in that regard.

I want the leafs to buy low on Jankowski so badly. 95 PDO and his primary linemates were lucic and zach Rinaldo. I want him almost as much as I want damon severson.

I wouldnt think so. If he comes back to TO his cap hit would be back to the full 8 million. If theres a CBO and the leafs were to trade for him and buy him out they would regain the 1.2 million previously retained

I think he would be a great fit in Toronto personally, doesnt need to be relied on for scoring and would greatly improve the Leafs PK. The main issues being Toronto's main need of a viable partner for Rielly and his QO being 1.85M. He had a really rough year this year but realistically should bounce back. There is a decent chance he's also not even qualified by Treliving and becomes a UFA.

The problem is outside of your big names and Kapanen there really isnt much interest from Calgary's perspective. Last thing the tea. Needs is LW's, LD's, and 3C's.

Wouldn't the Leafs just be 10 times better off just CBO Johnsson at 3.4m, and replace him with a 925,000 winger , so that's a cap saving of about 2.4m.
