Description

depth would ideally come from strong drafting. 13 picks in 2020. if not, still have some options to call up. They are in LTIR. I understand this likely wouldn't happen in the real world. Craig button on tsn said Robertson is a carbon copy of guentzel. if he can pan out to be that, trading Nylander won't have made any difference on the winger situation, and would give the leafs two big duos with good wingers beside them. I don't believe eichel would ever get traded unless he strongly forced the sabres hand, and while I think he's worth more, I don't know that many teams could present a much better offer.Maroon, Perry, korshkov, doughty give the leafs some big bodies and tough players for the playoffs. Kapanen and Hyman also add that element. Tavares>doughty slightly, but Walker>Dermott slightly, so it balances out in my opinion. If sandin heavily progresses, muzzin may be on his way out to make room in the top 4, and that money could be used to improve the bottom of the lineup

That seems like a fair trade for Eichel. I don’t think LA has much reason to do that trade. You can trade for Walker separately. Matt Roy is another option. As for Robertson, he’s a pure sniper & is probably a better skater than Jake, but I don’t think his play off the puck is anywhere near as good. That’s one of the reasons why Jake does so well wherever he plays.

Sure prop up the cap to $88 million to fit both Eichel and Doughty, First off Tavares isn't waiving for LA And secondly there's no way those pieces get yo Eichel Buffalo would want another highend center coming back not a Winger.

well that's already false, Doughty has been declining rapidly and Tavares still was on a 35 goal pace despite playing 10 games with either a broken or freshly healed hand.

tavares' contract isn't exactly pretty. I hope this was just a down year, as he did look really good at times, but as a whole he just seems slower this year, and skating issues don't usually translate well into your 30's. Doughty hits, plays smart defence, has grit, very vocal leader with Stanley cup experience. Its also not 1-for-1 as walker is much better than Dermott. If the leafs were to land another top center, I'd do this in a heartbeat. Tavares couldn't land you a much better RHD- maybe weber but he's 34 and has an even worse contract. I also recognize that buffalo wouldn't regularly accept this, but the hypothetical was if there was some deep issues between eichel and the sabres and they had to move him quickly, I don't know that many teams can put together anything better than a (on pace for bc of corona) 37g/71pt 23 year old, two firsts, a first round defenceman, and a second if he HAD to be moved.

man tavares looked so much slower this year, and a lack of strong skating doesn't usually age well- he'll still be very good just not the same as he has been in the past. doughty is still a rock defensively who plays with grit, is a vocal leader, and has major cup experience. Also still putting up decent offensive numbers considering the team he's on. I would only do this if the leafs were able to land another center better than/as good as tavares though

except that isnt true. Doughty got absolutely caved in defensively this season, like destroyed and he still got relativley heavy OZ starts (while notedly spending most of his time against good opponents, but then so did tavares) His offence also all but evaporated except for secondary assists.
Tavares plays with as much or more grit than doughty does, he literally spends significant portions of his game taking a beating in front of the other teams net and i couldnt care less about him being a 'vocal' leader. And if his cup experience is so valuable, then why are the Kings so bad? like seriously the Kings are terrible, and his decline is a huge reason for that.
Tavares may not be at peak anymore, but he's several steps behind doughty on the decline trail

the kings suck because they have nobody. A team with only one or two good players is still gonna be trash. Doughty's grit>tavares' u surely can't deny that. And I do agree that tavares is more valuable no doubt, but should the leafs be able to (unrealistically I know) acquire a center like Jack Eichel, tavares would become expendable, and we need defence. I'm not sure how many teams would give up a solid RHD with cup experience for his contract without sending a hefty contract back your way. Tried to balance some of the difference in value with walker as he is much better than Dermott

like i said, a big reason they suck is because their stars are not as good as they used to be and a couple, especially doughty, are significantly worse.
And yes, I can deny that tavares is less gritty than Doughty. because it's true. Grit isnt about throwing hits or punches, it's about physically controlling the game and taking punishment to make plays. Tavares is incredibly gritty.
if, by some miracle the leafs were to get Jack Eichel or someone comparable, yes, tavares would become expendable. But you still dont trade him for a guy who is just as expensive yet significantly worse and significantly further closer to compliance buy out candidacy
