They'll do more of a retool than a rebuild. Their young core will stay in tack, vets are more likely to get moved. You'd have a better shot at getting Couture then Hertl

If San Jose is giving up Hertle there will be a bidding war to get him. You know how many contending teams would want him??? He's a decent sized center with a strong 2-way game who puts up 30 goals and 70+ points. And on top of that he has a very reasonable cap hit. There are teams that would give up a 1st and an A level prospect without hesitation. You've offered neither here... If Buffalo were to trade for him the deal probably starts with a 1st, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and Middlestadt

& Cozens is a recent top 8 pick and Buffalo's 2020 1st is likely to be a top 10.. Hertl isn't worth 2 top 10 picks, especially in this years draft. Keep dreamin.

If Hertl was moved in the off-season, Middlestadt and a 2021 1st would be the start of the package, wouldn't be much more but wouldn't be 2 guaranteed top 10 picks. Hertl hasn't proved that much to justify that kinda return

Vegas gave up Suzuki (13th OA pick), plus other assets just to rent Pacioretty. Lots if teams would be interested in adding Hertle, his price will be inflated
