If there's going to be a blockbuster trade of this magnitude, then one season of Backes's contract isn't going to kill it.

Probably wouldn’t kill it, but I’m curious what the cost to offload Backes for one year be. A second, first, or one of those prospects? Just feels like adding Backes would be lowering the value of the other pieces. If it’s easy enough to dump his contract I’d propose to do it in another trade.

I'm a little confused, isn't Gaudreau a Top 10 LW in the league on a top 10 contract. He's a Hart level player. I'd expect Gaudreau for Debrusk

Sweeney has been pretty clear that he just isn’t trading studnicka. Last year when they were discussing deals for mark stone, according to reports when studnicka’ s name was brought up, Sweeney cut the conversation off and said it was a non starter. Stone is a better player than johnny.

He had one outlier year where he was 4th in hart votes. Other than that he’s never gotten votes.

Well that whole paragraph makes Sweeney a moron if he won’t sacrifice Studnicka for Stone. Lol. To your point, Sweeney is high on the kid for sure.

We shall see I guess. He’s doing decent in his first pro year, but not exactly dazzling. To be fair to Sweeney, he’s the best they have at the moment.
