New Year Canucks
I think Boeser, Lekkarimaki and Rathbone are already enough for San Jose to accept. Thing is, how does this deal make the Canucks better today and in the future? Meier is already 26 and gonna command a raise when his contract is up. He shoots like five shots a game consistently, but in Vancouver watch him only shoot twice per game! 😂

OP what I think you mean to say, is even if everything goes well, we're still gonna be a bubble team. And that's alot of if's, but's and however's that have to fall the Canucks way.
Personally, I believe the best thing is to start shipping out these dead contracts (Myers, Boeser, Garland, Poolman and even Demko). The roster is crunched in cap space thanks to all these mediocre contracts. These players are still decent and might do well on the right team, just not in Vancouver.
The season has been plagued in mediocrity and I don't see how shipping the aforementioned contracts will even make the roster that much worse. We probly won't get a top 3 pick, but that's okay. Shed cap space between now and the off-season so there's cap space for future moves. Dumba would be a nice upgrade on Myers even if the rest of the D core remains the same.
Time to stockpile futures and cap space. Build on smart contract signings, even 1 year deals on players that can be moved at deadline for futures. Slow and steady wins the race. We should build around Petterson, Hughes and Miller. Our best assets outside Horvat, who Canucks should deal for futures. 8 million+ is too expensive for a player whose only had an elite year in his contract season. Miller had point per game seasons prior to scoring 99 points and was the backbone with Petterson and Hughes, not Horvat.
With a little luck, in a few years we'll have a bunch of low cost, young players surrounding Petterson, Hughes and Miller. At least salary cap space to sign the best players and compete in the playoffs.

WOW! What a great deal for the Oilers. 3rd/4th line RW that can occasionally play in the top 6 for 1.5M cap hit. Amazing!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>If we have to give Tyler 7 years then we should walk. It's tough to let players go, but we also need to consider what will look bad later. Tyler has never been an elite point producer, and normally hovers around 50. Kreider has long had the one-up, and even his contract was seen as steep.
I like that cap hit, but at no more than 4 years.</div></div>
Miller wasn't expected to be a PPG player either but now he's probly one of the top 10-20 forwards in the NHL right now. If Toffoli goes cold and his point total drops between now and the end of the season, then he can walk. As of now though 6 points in 4 games with 4 goals looks very very good and he could easily continue that with the talent on the team. In LA all he had was Doughty and Kopitar to produce with. He scores big goals against good teams which is hard to find. You're probly right though that he only has 3-5 years of being a 50+ point player. After that he might be the next Loui Eriksson.

I really don't want to pay Stecher that much either.... he isn't that good.</div></div>
I gave Toffoli 7 years because that's probably the minimum term he'd sign for. 5.875M cap hit is reasonable if he can maintain near a PPG pace down the stretch. Kreider is a fair comparison but I doubt anyone would give Toffoli more than 6M.
We'll see what happens with Ferland but he's in the same situation as Andrew Shaw in Chicago. I hope they come back.
I'm not convinced Stetch is a top 4 defenseman but the going rate for a tweener top 4/top 6 defenseman is between 3-4M. They should resign him for another year because whose going to replace him at this point? He's done a good job in his role but he wants a bigger role and probly more money at least. I say sign him for a year and let him walk the following season. Woo might be ready by then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>battadan</b></div><div>Keith is pretty good.. ha. <strong>im not to worries about winning games after the TDL this year. lets be in the top 5 for the draft.</strong>
bowman then has the whole summer to build around keith, murphy, Boqvist, seabs (kinda).
<strong>also you have to assume a couple prospects will make the jump</strong>: guilbert, beaudin, regula, holm at least 1-2 of them will be up i hope.
so no i dont think it is dire to keep the dmen we have for next year.
yes there are one hit wonders but there are more great players that have 1 bad year, then go back to productive. i still like the way he is playing, he is getting such great opportunities, that im not worries, it will click eventually this year. <strong>if not he will be damn motivated to come out blazing next year</strong>.</div></div>
Yes, it's not about winning this year but we need to keep the players that are going to help us win for next season and beyond. Koekkoek can do that and it's not like he's 32. He could stick around for a rebuild. Ya he takes a roster spot but he can be a solid 7th D-man which this team could use next season. Tanking for a lottery is overrated imo unless the team is in the bottom 3-5 which we're not. I'd rather the team finish with good energy to give them confidence heading into next season.
I hope Beaudin, Krys or others make the jump next season on our blueline. It's time to slowly drip these players into the lineup. We're facing cap troubles for the foreseeable future so this is the easiest way to get around that.
Friend told me early this season that Debrincat's one-timer cant even hit the net. I told him give him some time and it will come. Well it's almost the end of the season and Cat is hitting the net, just alot of the shots are perimeter shots or into the goalies crest. I've lost my patience with him now because he's a liability defensively and struggles to win board and net battles. Let's hope he be guns blazing again because it's not looking good for him or the Hawks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>battadan</b></div><div>ya Koekkoek has been good, but for teams that are buyers on monday he is a perfect target, so i just would expect a pretty good return. and i know we always fall in love with our own players, but <strong>he is replaceable</strong>.
you cant give up on the cat. so many players have a bad year after the contract. <strong>i 100% expect him to be a 35 goal scorer next year regardless of the coach.</strong></div></div>
This defense has been horrible. Only Koekkoek,Murphy and Maatta have been consistent defensively. Who we gonna replace Koekkoek with? Dumping him leaves this defense even worse and it's already awful. Assuming Maatta gets traded at the deadline or draft - that only leaves us with Murphy and De Haan as a reliable defensive presence next season.
Banking on Debrincat bouncing back under Colliton is a huge risk. If he keeps playing the way he does, he will be difficult to move and we won't get much in return. His value is still decent now so I wouldn't say to other teams that he won't be traded. NHL history is full of players that had monster scoring years then fell off a cliff shortly later.

i think its time to sell. like you said teams know it is a very open playoffs, they have to go for it making prospects, and picks more expendable.
here are my lists:
i want moved:
strome, crow, maatta, nylander, smith (i think is a perfect TDL pickup), koekkoek
im ok with trading, but would rather keep:
saad, lehner, guskampf
id hate to see go:
murphy, carpenter,cagg
everyone else i dont think its even reasonable to think they will be traded (other than picks/prospects)</div></div>
I'd hate to see Koekkoek go given how consistent he is. Plus seems like a good guy. Having a depth defenseman that can make a pass, hit, shoot, block shots AND play the right side is huge. He's only 25 and will be an RFA so Hawks can't lose him to FA. They should keep him unless someone offers a 3rd and a 5th or something like that.
Also, surprised Debrincat isn't on your list but Strome is. I was the biggest Strome supporter but now I realize he's going nowhere under JC and his new system. Same with Debrincat. They just don't perform well in slow-paced chippy games and along the boards. If JC gets fired this summer Hawks may want to keep them, otherwise I think they should be traded.

We're 7 points out of a wildcard spot with 3 games in hand. Honestly don't think this team can make it. Even when we play a good game, we lose. You can say we havn't been getting the bounces but as they say "good teams get good bounces" and I don't think this is a good team. We have plenty of pending UFA's, RFA's and players with a year left after this season. Given our situation, this is a great time to take advantage and build for next season and beyond. Other teams are throwing first and second round picks like candy not to mention good prospects. If we hang onto all these players and miss the playoffs it will be a disaster from an asset management point of view. Also, it'll be hard to make massive changes in the off-season if Hawks did nothing at the previous trade deadline. Thoughts?

Not that bad considering Ferland and Leivo are done for the year and Boeser out until playoffs. Toffoli will fit in very nice with this team. Madden will be an NHL player but could be years until that happens. Canucks can't wait that long and can't afford to miss the playoffs this year. Fair deal.

Dach Question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I think Mac is more than speed. He's got a lot of power and a heck of a shot. It's why he was a #1OA pick. I am indeed a little worried about Bowman/Kubalik. In 2 ways. A.) Bowman will either give him a $4M contract...way too much...or...B.) Trade him for less than his value. I give Bowman a TON of credit for that steal of a trade. Kubalik for a 5th rounder... WOW great trade. But he can't fall back into the old ways where Bickell, Panik, Manning, Kruger, Seabs got contracts either worth more than they provide...or are payback contracts *cough cough* Seabs. Give him a 1 year prove it contract...or just let him go to arbitration.
As a side note. <strong>I also give a ton of credit to Bowman for continuously churning these guys out! Am I right?!?!</strong> Panarin, Kempny, Rutta, Kahun, Kubalik...all for free! That's a very underrated sign of a good GM.</div></div>
Someone in Hawks hockey Ops department probably found those guys for him. Whoever that guy is, we gotta give him the next GM job. Yes it might be Stan, but I doubt it.
Also, Kubalik on a 4M multi-year contract would be dope. You'll regret not signing a young stud to a reasonable multi-year deal when you had the chance. Even if he only scores 20 goals with 40-50 points every year...at 4M he'd be totally worth it. Stan better not trade him unless a star player is coming back to us.

Colliton has been handed a much better team this year than Q was handed at the start of last year. On paper, I don't see why this team shouldn't be in the playoffs. The fans are growing restless of wasting Kane's time not in the playoffs. <strong>Colliton has proved he is capable of bringing this team to the playoffs. They almost made it after that strong second half of the season last year. </strong>Hopefully he can make that same push again. We are in a good position now to come back from the all star break and make that push.</div></div>
The fans are entitled to boo whoever they want. As they say "the customer is always right". Without those fans, that clown Jeremy Colliton would be toiling in some middle management position. Probably causing havoc there too. Don't feel bad for this guy he's making MILLIONS and doing a terrible job.
Colliton HAS NOT proved he can take a team to the playoffs. Sure the team played well in the second half but the team sucked when he came in...losing 18 of the first 21 games he coached. I know he was new and all, but there's no way even with the injuries that we win only THREE games out of TWENTY-ONE.
