I like this trade for Montreal. Lehkonen shouldn't be traded, but for Johnsson replaces him and we get 1st + Bracco + Sandin for Petry

I like Lehk and think his work ethic would rub off, Petry would be a great RD for us as well. I am not sure how realistic my signing are though. I fig Barrie is having a bad yr and may want to take a short term deal to boost his stock.

1.5 years of Petry and the meh Lehkonen for the Johnsson, the expected "goodness" of Sandin long term and a first rounder. So bad for the Leafs.

I didn't say it wasn't , but no team in the league is going to help out the Leafs. They are going to have to overpay if they want help in the season.

So because no one will help them, that means the Leafs have to help Montreal? This trade is nonsense. Sandin is going to be a lot better than Petry and is 20. Full stop.

This trade is the equivalent to breaking a bone in your foot and instead of putting on a cast, you have the doctor remove the entire leg. Sure it may provide some immediate pain relief but there are far less drastic actions

Bold statement. It doesn't matter what team they trade with, they are going to have to overpay if they want help in the season. It's pretty crazy to say Sandin is going to be better at Petry. He has a long way to go.

Oh I definitely agree. The Leafs shouldn't make this trade, but It doesn't change the fact that they are going to have to overpay.

Petry is a good 2nd pair defenceman with offense. He's not some #1 stud. Sandin looks like he's going to be at the least that, and very quickly at the age of 20. Petry is what 32?

As for your "help" statement. So does every team have to overpay to make a trade? Or is it only the Leafs that have to, because it seems most GM's just don't make moves if everyone is offering crap or want insane returns. These teams that are "Helping" won't get very far if they ask for triple what a player is worth.

Petry is a real #3 Defensemen. With his 6 games in the NHL, the only thing we saw is he's able to help offensively in the NHL. His defense definitely is not anywhere close to NHL quality yet.

I would say every team in the NHL has to overpay especially when their needs are so clear. Doesn't help that you don't have one of the better GM's in the league

I'd rather keep Sandin and the first than trade for a guy who will be declining and get yeeted out in the first round again this year.

I don't think Leaf fans and media aren't going to be okay with another 1st round flunk if they even make it that far. It's only going to get worse from here on out.

Sandin showed himself to be a possession monster and they sent him down after he took a monster elbow to the face. His defence was very good for a 20 year old. Perhaps though, you should be more worried about your own team. Their "window of contention" might be shorter than your window to chirp Leaf fans about the current standings.

Not sure what you mean by our window of contention. We have one of the best prospect cores in the league and our GM didn't trade away a 1st round pick in a meaningless trade. We also aren't handicapped by undeserved overpaid players. But hey, what do you know.

Montreal's two best players are both in the mid 30's and have terrible anchor contracts. Your defence isn't good or mobile and your goaltending isn't good enough to mask those problems anymore. Montreal isn't getting better.

I have no idea what you mean by meaningless trade, are you suggesting that getting Muzzin was meaningless? Or the Marleau trade? One gave the Leafs another top pair defenceman and the other had to be made because Lou thought it was a good idea to give a 37 year old player a 3 year high priced contract. The Leafs are trending in the right direction while Montreal is floundering.
