Who won the TML AVS trade

Créé par: TopLineTom43
Équipe: 2019-20 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 30 oct. 2019
Publié: 30 oct. 2019
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
It’s one month in

Avs side

Kadri 7 points in 11 games. He’s filled they biggest hole the avs had from last year (2c). Avs look dangerous. They lost Barrie but seem to be Strong defensively. Top 5 in GA and goal Diff. They currently lead the central division with 17 points (8-2-1)

Leafs
Look to be off to an average start. Average doesn’t quite cut it when the expectation are cup or bust. Kerfoot looks to be a solid productive 3c with 7 points in 12 games. Barrie has added 5 points but doesn’t appear to be as defensively responsible as the leafs had hoped. Leafs currently sit 3rd in the ATL division with 15 points (6-5-3)

I looked back when this trade first happened and notice that a lot of people had this as a major win for the leafs. Has anyone’s opinion changed or too early to tell?

(I wrote this on my phone sorry for grammar/misspellings. I know their are some grammar nuts on here and that grammatical errors are very annoying. Sorry. )

As an outsider, I'd say that it's way too early to declare a winner or loser in this trade.

Barrie goes to a team that has a completely different scheme on defense, and will likely take 15-20 games to adjust in the first place. If you think about it, it should be super surprising that Toronto have struggled defensively to start the season. They had a 50% turnover in their top 6D since last year. Definitely takes time to adjust.

IMO, both teams got what they needed, and if you think about it, 1 year of Barrie is probably worth the difference of Kadri to Kerfoot, especially since they've got a #1 and #2 C signed long term.

Give it some time though-Ceci, Barrie and Muzzin are all UFA's at the end of the year, and while Toronto has Sandin and Liljegren waiting in the wings, turning over their D by 40-50% again will continue to hurt.

I agree completely. I think this trade was a win win. I just was curious if people still thought it was a land slide win for the leafs still.

Player wise on paper Toronto wins this but a detailed look, its definitely the Avalanche. The Leafs have Barrie and Muzzin as UFAs at the end of the year and Barrie wants 8 mill. Kerfoot to me is an ok 3rd liner

Rosen is extra depth on d and the 3rd helps Avs offset the trade for burakovsky (2nd and a 3rd)

All balances out in the wash

Yup. And Bura probably helps more than Kerfoot would have.

Having kadri signed 3 seasons at 4.5m as a 2c holds so much value in avs long term planning in the mack contract window.

Great points. Hopefully kadri plays more than 2 playoffs games. But win win. It’s still early maybe I should have waited till trade deadline for this post haha.

Yup bura is a shooter. Kerfoot is the opposite who probably over passes avoiding taking the shot.

Bura is just a better fit

As a caps fan how do you guys like Burakovsky? He was so inconsistent with us it was just frustrating. He looks like he’s producing with you guys. I only see stat sheets but that hardly tells the entire story

He’s been good, you can see the high skill flash out. Rarely has he been having a off nights that you don’t notice him at all

That’s good. He’s a guy that needs to play in the top 6 and the capitals weren’t willing to bump Vrana down. That being said I like that value we got for him.

I’m not thrilled about the value but he’s been good and if he keeps it up then it’s totally fair and worth it . He’s a top 6 player talent wise but can he do it consistently for the next 70 games? That’s the hope

That would be cool. Between him and grubby we have been pretty solid trade partners.

Seems to be a fair deal. A top six forward is less valuable than a top four defensemen but Barrie only has one year left on his deal and probably won't be with Toronto after this season. Kadri, on the other hand, will be Colorado's second line center for the next few years at least. He wasn't seeing proper ice time behind Mathews and Taveres and when Makar impressed in playoffs it was pretty clear that the Avs no longer needed Barrie.
The other parts of this trade are pretty insignificant. Sure Colorado retained some salary but the contract is only good for this year, and Kerfoot is a replaceable player, as is Rosen. Each team improved as a result of this trade, which makes it a great deal for both sides.

Kerfoot and Kadri are about even. I just never saw Kadri as true 2C he's not offensive enough. Barrie seems to losing millions of dollars as a Leaf (his next contract). He's been OK which is the norm for the all the Leafs Dmen this season.
Barrie, Muzzin,Ceci all gone next season from the Leafs next season which was sorta the long term plan.

Yes, and I was Zaitsev supporter. As we have seen this season having Zaitsev and Hainsey as Leafs were quite productive especially on the PK. The real purpose of the Zaitsev/Ceci trade was to get long term cap relief for the Leafs. Shame to use the productive Brown but when you overpay Nylander, Matthews and Marner by 4.5m someone has to go. Plus it forced the Leafs to go with Holl or Marincin as regulars and not have a player like Hainsey.
I might have preferred having 4.5m cap space instead of Ceci but the Leafs had to take Ceci since the Sen had already agreed verbally to give him a qualifying offer. Certainly on this site, Ceci has been the new Leafs whipping boy which has hasn't been justified.

I like Zaitsev game. Was hoping the caps would get him and he could play with orlov. wasn’t a fan of that trade. I do notice a lot of people trading Ceci and I just assumed he was playing terrible but admittedly I haven’t watched too many leaf Games. Just the 2 vs Washington
