I don't understand the justification of the Preds sending a 1st and 2nd, plus 3 of the top 4 players included in this deal?

Preds laugh their ass off.

On this one you are way off, Preds are winning this trade so bad. Rinne is out after this year, they get rid of Turris contract, gets the best goalie in the league at 9.5M and gets Mete who will play top4 for years to come under Josi. Wait, they also gets Lehkonen ... MTL gets Ehkolm and 2 picks ... Ehkolm is great, but MTL isn’t better with this trade, at all. Preds are cup contenders X10 with Price

Nope. They have Rinne for another year. He’s underpaid. Top 3. Price is an albatross of a contract they don’t want. He’s been below average in every metric for the last 3 years.

Ekholm is better than Mete.

Preds are worse off now and in the future with this deal.

Turris and 1st for Lehk. Sure they do that. Rest....no way.

Price have no defenseman for years, what people don’t understand in that. Every game you guys played against MTL, pretty sure every goals you score were due to poor defense. Yes you are right, MTL will be good for 2 years, since Rinne got 2 years remaining, but Price is an upgrade on Rinne. Look at Price stats when he have defenseman in front of him ( Team Canada ). Ehkolm is 4x better than Mete, but Mete can play top4 and is very good defensively. Preds dont have LHD coming soon, so Mete will be a lock long term. More I think about it, might be fair, Primeau might be ready to be #1 after Rinne contract.

Rinne is not the problem. They have been cup contenders for the last 3 years and are again this year. A lot of that is because of him. He’s a vezina contender year in and year out. Rinne for Price has pretty much no affect on their chances. The only thing it does is secure a #1 for longer term. Something that is not a good thing with Price contract. The rest is just horrible for them.

Freddy Anderson puts up better metrics with an inept d in front of him.

Price has faded, he is not the star he was 3-4 years ago. The team around him has stunk...yes, but he isn’t the same as he used to be either. Team can only be blamed for so much when your metrics are in the 30-50 range.

Preds give up the best forward, dman & goalie in this trade. Plus the two higher draft picks. Easy pass from Nashville.

i remember a time when your comments made sense .

did you buy this account off someone ?
Rinne is 37 next week FFS ofcourse he only has 1 year left he signed his Big Contract in Price's Sophmore year when he was Price's current age .

at that time the 7m he made was 2nd or 3rd in the league among Goalies .
Quick , Crawford , MAF , Thomas , Brodeur and every other Cup winning goalie made less then Rinne .

Lundqvist is basically the only one
Price , Ward , Miller , Varlamov never made more the Rinne
just Lundqvist as far as i've seen

i mean dont get me started on the D he had play infront of him vs the trash MTL has brought in since Molson bought the team back in 2009

NSH gives up a 37 year old goalie
and a 30 year old forward on a 3 year decline

Sure Ekholms worth more as are the picks
but saying 37 year old Rinne is worth more then Price tells me you have no investments or savings because you cant see past tomorrow making you the last person i'd want making long term trades .

Lehkonen and Turris both fill a 2nd/3rd line role . one can play a complete 2 way game and the other is a 1 dimensional forward who's foot speed is heavily declining and if not for his faceoff ability i think Turris would have washed out of the league to the KHL by now .

this deals bad for both
MTL doesnt need Price longterm but when we do move him it will be to make Primeau starter .
MTL doesnt need Lehkonen but when we move him it wont be for a player who's slow and will fit our system as much as Alzner did .

I dont want any part of a 32 year old goalie signed for what 6 more years at 10 million, no I like price but no. its not a good deal for the preds even if it does get that turris deal off the books.

30/84m will be paid by years end
that's 54m over 6 years

by the time we are ready to trade him and Primeau's ready to take Starting Position it will be 2021-22 and we'll have paid 50/84m with 4 years left at 34m .

Sure the cap will cause some issues but there isnt a GM out there who would pass on Price .
maybe he isnt going to land a huge package with firsts or youth all star pieces but he'll still get a solid return .

high Cap matters to a lot of teams for sure but there are many that will take a cap hit to avoid paying actual salary . the best example of this is the New Jersey Devils who would take Price in a heart beat

My investment portfolio is healthier than the Habs' future, but thanks for your concern.

Rinne is a better goalie at 36 than Price is at 32. For a team in win now mode, that's important. Trading for Price anchors Nashville to a lesser goalie for way too long at more than double the cap hit, plus it forces them to expose Saros to the expansion draft. Short term and long term, it's a bad deal for Nashville.

Turris has rebounded amazingly so far from a an injury plagued season last year. He's an important part of one of the best offences in the league, especially with Forsberg being injured right now. Lehkonen is a lesser version of Jarnkrok that costs more. With Jarnkrok and Sissons already here, he'd be a redundant piece in Nashville. Is 6 mil too much to pay for Turris given his role on the team? Sure, but when you're not paying $10.5 for a no longer top tier goalie, you can afford luxuries like offensive depth.

Victor Mete will likely never be anywhere near as good as Ekholm. Even if the picks being traded here were reversed, the Preds are still getting hosed here. There's not a single incentive for Nashville in this proposal - now or in the future.

So Rinne at 5M cap hit at 37 is bad but Price at 10.5 at 39 isn’t. ?. It’s a terrible long term investment.

And I’m not trading portfolios with you. i’m just fine. ??

No GM worth having would rather have Price for 7 years at 9.5 over 2 years of Rinne at 5, and be saddled with that cap hit over the last 4 or 5 years of it. Hell, most GMs don’t want to be saddled with it now.

And that is before the rest of the deal which is god awful for Preds.

Habs would kill for this trade to happen. Meanwhile the best part of the trade for the Preds is a bad contract. Lol.
