It will take a 3rd round pick to get rid of Gudbranson
It will take a 1st to get rid of JJ, the team who will take JJ doesn’t need a roster player back

Gudbranson brings a pick back, nothing added by the penguins. There are multiple teams that need help on the backend. His contract is not hard to move. It's only 2 years. Even if you think the cap hit is high. For teams in need of help, it's a cost they have to swallow. If the penguins don't make the playoffs by bet is he ends up on the leafs. Easy swap for Ceci who's contract will end.

As far as JJ, they aren't giving up a 1st to move a guy for 2 years.
Especially one that is only a 2 million cap hit in the minors.

So many people on here with their whacked out evaluations. Trade after trade shows how far off people on here are.
There is such a massive need for defense men in the NHL right now it's unreal. To think neither of these players has any value is ridiculous.
There are at least 4 teams in serious need of defense men. And it's only been 5-6 games into the season.
Wait till 2 months in when injuries are all around. You'll realize quickly that AHL level guys aren't going to cut it. Especially as the AHL gets younger and younger. Because if they had the ability they would already be there.

Johnson will cost an asset to move, but hopefully not a first.

Let's trade away a 3c and LD for peanuts just to have to give up assets to get replacements for them.

Teams could live with Johnson for a year or two, but not four years. He' play and pay is to cap unfriendly and in Ottawa's case...it's the $$$$

The need to move Johnson and Gudbranson now is a mirage.

It was different at the beginning of the season. If you had had to shift one of them for cap reasons in September, then it might have required paying to do so. (I posted several such constructions based upon that premise at the time, but the need never actually arose.) However, with your raft of injuries, the LTIR has postponed the need to move either of them for quite some time -- perhaps even into 2020. And although Rutherford will have to do something about them next off-season in order to re-sign all of your free agents, nothing extreme will be required then. Johnson can be bought out for roughly half his cap hit the first two years, and Gudbranson will still have some value. (I'm still convinced that Anaheim would, and should, give you at least a fifth if he's offered.)

Oh I never said we would get back anything. I'm amazed we did. But it just goes to show you that maybe JJ won't need a first either wink.
