Trade is good . We dont need the pick to do it though. Bracco has to play 3rd line or lots with marlies. Ceci still needs to go.

You can never have too many draft picks.

I'm excited to see if Ceci can be something without the unreasonable positions he was in in Ottawa carrying Ahlers when he wasnt good enough.

If he has to go for cap reasons fine, but if not a one year experiment seems worth the shot.

For Bracco I'm less concerned about line number and more thinking line usage. Kerfoots line is likely to have tougher matchups and more two-way responsibility. A line centered by a 36 year old spezza I feel is more likely to be a sheltered scoring line which could work for a young Bracco. Get some sheltered minutes (because frankly all three of Matthews/Tavares/Kerfoots lines can take tough minutes) and some 2nd unit pp time and see how he does in his rookie year.

In regards to he 5th most see late picks as negligible value and are happy to include them and I think Dubas et Al have seen the value in stock piling them

I would have thought so too but a bunch of NYI fans here (fwiw) actually seemed on board when posted elsewhere.

This is good but what about how Sandin has looked so far?
This move effectively squash any chance he makes the team.

Also not a fan of Agostino, Timashov and Gauthier have looked better.

Isn't Mayfield a 3rd pairing D? Hyman is a top 6 forward...seems fair to me. I don't want to trade Hyman knowing how badly the team lacks the things he brings.

I haven't had a chance to watch preseason. But I also don't want to overrated preseason. I've never been much of a fan of Gauthier so if he has imported forgive me for not being aware. If timashov has taken a bunch of steps forward same deal.

At this point Agostino has proven to be a competent NHL winger and pretty good scorer for his minutes so to me he's the man to beat.

Sandin isn't blocked by this. There is enough minutes and need and as Babcock says he like 8 or so NHL defenseman. There will be injuries and if he is that good a future trade can be made. Nothing the matter with trading from a position of strength.

I dont think Sandin makes the team to rot on the bunch.
Why bother? Better let play with Marlies instead then do that.

Oh I certainly wouldn't let him rot on the bench.

I'd put have him as first injury call up. And if he truly earned his spot AND Dermott could handle 1RD duties I'd trade Ceci.

I think we will be lucky if Dermott returns to form by playoff time.
Remember last season?

Fair enough.

Then in that case he would be first injury call up.

Can we afford to trade Ceci then without a replacement back?
I'm thinking not.

It really depends how both he and Dermott look. If neither look competent to play second fiddle to the true 1d in Rielly for 20ish minutes a night were screwed.

If Ceci does and Dermott doesn't were fine, and we give Dermott time to either develop into that or into left d #2 or #3.

If both do then we can talk about trading Ceci.

Remember they don't need to carry the pair. Rielly has that. They just need to complement him

I was thinking that even if Ceci looks okay and the Leafs decide to trade him...what can they realistically get back to make it worthwhile to gain cap flexibility?

This whole time Leafs have been looking for RHD help and at least for this season they have it. Is it worth messing with?

It all depends on how good he is and how desperately they need the cap room.

It's going to be tough to carry less than 22 players.

There will be a lot of times where a guy has something nagging and could use a night off where he won't get it because there is no sib available. I suspect it will lead to more major and lingering injuries because of it
