I’m sorry this is sad. He turns down 11mil? Forget the term, this is just greed.

Yes maybe it’s his agent or PAUL!

But cmon. Marner is not an 11 million dollar guy, Tavares is. And he turns it down?

I would think that with all those high final year salary's resulting in high qualifying offers we will see a lot of RFA's (that have not proven they are worth that number) hitting free agency a year early when the teams refuse to offer the qualifying offer

I get where he's coming from. No one knows how high the cap will be in 3 years with the new tv deal and all. He doesn't want to leave money on the table. Toronto should be going for a 3 year deal at this point. I'm sure Marner will push for 4. They need to meet somewhere in between.

Wonder if he'll get a deal done with his new team before regular season starts?

3.5 take it or leave it. At TDL marner is a UFA and it creates the biggest draw in NHL history now creating RFA market breaks at TDL. Only RFAs can do this deal and if they don’t extend before TDL it becomes a 1 day trade and bidding war the last day.

Most teams don't have the cap space anymore for the offersheet for these top RFA's. The one's that do have their own RFA's to sign.

Won't happen. Marner isn't worth the four unprotected 1sts that would go with his ridiculous asking asking price, and no teams with the cap space and money to make it work financially are going to be lottery teams even with Marner.

I honestly don’t know what we’re gonna see from marner. I usually have a good guess but point and Tampa are supposedly far apart, mikko has no rumblings, and Paul is ****ing **** up Lol. I really don’t want to see 3 RFA’s sitting out

The time has come for Dubas to crank up the pressure on Marner. To date, Dubas and the Leafs have been completely professional during this negotiation - that ends now.

Dubas' playbook:

Sep 11 - Make best and final offers at 2y, 3y, 6y, 7y, 8y to Marner. Maner has the ability to accept any of these offers. Let him know that he has a week to accept the offers. If not accepted by Sep 18th, make the offers public.

Sep 18 - Make offers public. Let everyone know that these offers expire effective Sep 30.

Sep 30 - Announce that a deal has been reached or that negotiations are officially closed. Marner will either sit for the season or be traded.

The above strategy will not sit well with Marner's camp, but at least it ends all public speculation about what the actual offers are. This puts the ball completely in the player's hands. The time to be professional is over.

Of the three, I would be most surprised to see Rantanen sit. I think he's the first domino to fall. Him or Tkachuk.

People have to stop shifting blame off of Mitch Marner. Everyone wants to blame Paul Marner or Darren Ferris or Kyle Dubas or even Darren Dreger for some reason, but at the end of the day Mitch makes the call. If he decided to say **** it, and get a deal done, he'd have a deal within the hour. Mitch isn't special. He's just another multi millionaire who wants to become even more of a multi millionaire.

100% Paul is just a fun jab, and Paul 2.0 (dreger) is also a fun Jab. Yes at the end of the day I blame marner, being a millionaire who makes 9 million with millions of ad/ sponsor money, or a 10-12 million dollar guy with millions in ad and sponsors is just pointless to sit out over. Marner isn’t with 10, not worth 10.5, sure as hell ain’t worth 11, 12 is a joke, if his QO is 14 he’s literally gonna be a toxic contract. I mean just using my team for instance Meier is 4x6mil RFA at the end and impacts the game hugely for San Jose, arguably could be better than last year and if he is this year I’d rather Meier than marner, Mikko is more impactful than marner and I don’t hear him getting 11+, if he wants more than Tavares the guy who boosted him by 30 points after joining (not a coincidence) than I’m trading marner everyday of the week

I'm pretty sure he's not turning down the 11M per se, he's turning it down because of the term. If he was offered 11x5 years (whichever amount of years brings him to UFA first, i think he would take that. Looking at this from their point of view, I think they are pushing for "pay me like Matthews and I'll sign long term" if not "Give a me a little less but I want shortest term that brings me to UFA as quick as possible".

Not defending it, just saying that's the end game here that they are going for IMO.

If marner signs and ends before Matthews I see Matthews leaving no matter what 100000% if marner leaves before him. So I think Toronto doesn’t know what the best plan is, but that’s why I think they offered him 11x7
