Description
Marner contract issue is based on the poor contract negotiated by Dumbas on Matthews. He is not worth 11 million, not when he signed or last season. First and foremost he can't play a full season, always hurt missing 20 games, he hasn't even been a top 30 scorer in the league. Marner deserves more cash than Matthews but **** f-up!!

I'll agree that Matthews is overpaid, But that doesn't mean the Leafs HAVE to. overpay Marner or any other their players. If a team underpays a star, it certainly doesn't mean that can sign all their next RFAs less than league comparables.

I mean until the core in Toronto win a playoff series, I dont think anyone can speak. The Sens made the 2nd round in 2013 with their top 2 players injured. They've also had more success. Just wait 1-2 years its either gonna be a Byfield vs Matthews discussion or Lafreniere vs Marner

I really find it funny how the biggest trolls on this site are generally die hard fans of teams that are bottom feeders.

I'd rather be a contender which is exactly what TO is. They are the 3rd youngest team in the league and are only going to improve. I know many people on here, you included are desperately hoping they fall flat but you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one resembles the senators. Spoiler alert, its the pile of crap.

Draisatl, Barkov, Larkin, Point, Aho. Matthews is no better than all of these guys. Better or same offensive output, yet They all are better defensively. Matthews is no good unless he is on the ice.

Hey buddy, i'm a Habs fan at heart but i also cheer for the Leafs as i have my whole 48yr existence. I find it really funny that the only people who don't see what the issues are in Toronto are often Leaf fans.
Before you get a chance to reply. I knew last season was a pleasant surprise for my Habs, yet I believe as terrible as we were, we finished 4pts behind your mighty Leafs. As for this upcoming season i'm not sure we are better than last, however, having a healthy Price, Weber and Byron to start the season should get us going in the right direction. Hope we make the playoffs.

https://www.tsn.ca/the-perils-of-paying-players-into-their-30s-1.1351451

The article uses the projected age of the starting lineup. For TO I believe they only have 3 players who will be 30 or older in their lineup and one of them (Spezza) is not a lock to make the team.

I want to see Montreal in there as well. I have gone on record saying I think 5 teams from the Atlantic make the playoffs and only 3 from the Metro. I also think there is a good chance that the top 4 teams in the Atlantic could finish ahead of anyone from the Metro in total points.

With all that said, I think there is a chance that Montreal does regress but I am pulling for them to have another good year. Hopefully they have some defensive help coming up sooner rather than later however as I don't have much faith in Weber and Petry continuing to elude father time.
