Pat and Joe will get their contracts with the Sharks. Maybe Jumbo Joe doesn't want to continue taking %50 pay cuts. Marleau is under a million, he collected over 3 1/2 million from his buyout, despite he was only owed 4.5 million for the 19/20 season.

I mean, sure, but why couldn't they do that in San Jose, this year?

Right. Because they hardly lost anybody in free agency this summer, and all their third liners will do great as second liners, and the 28 year old rookies who did good last year will definitely do just as well, without two sixty-to-eighty point forwards tilting the ice in their favor.

It could be a rough year. I think they'll pull through and make the playoffs. And I think Thornton will, once again, be a big reason for it.

But if Marleau gets invited to go play on a bubble team's first line, and take credit when they go from zeros to squeaking into the playoffs, he'd probably have more fun being a 1L on the highest scoring line in the NHL than being a 3L on a team fighting to stay in the playoff hunt after losing its best goal scorer.

Speaking of.... if you rearrange the lines so the second is Thornton-Nugent-Hopkins-Neal, and the third is Chiasson-Khaira-Gagner, you might have some chance of convincing both to come and play. You might also try splitting that last million of cap space between them, instead of holding it and counting on their generosity.

If Thornton's gonna be a 3rd liner wherever he goes, he's staying in the sunshine, where he already has a house, and they pay him better.

So let me get this straight. The sharks are a bubble team, but the oilers are contenders?

If Sharks keep waiting, even Thornton may get frustrated, willing 2 play with McJesus and Drais?
Sharks already said NOT interested in Marleau.
Marleau retiring in ED would be beautiful..-~
