Brodie has more value than this - as a deadline move, he can fetch a first. But the Flames don't have until the deadline, so shipping him out for this price tries to balance the Flames lack of leverage with the value of a defenceman that can play first pairing minutes.

Flames are over a barrel. Getting fair value for him is going to be tough.

That is how the cost stays down for Montreal. They make the playoffs, they aren't flipping him. If they aren't in the playoff picture and they can flip him for a second+prospect, or a first, they definitely eat a third rounder to do it.

My statement has nothing to do with choosing to trade brodie. It has to do with what leverage do the flames have to tell any team they will get a draft pick if he's flipped. Other teams have to want or be willing to take the player you're trading. Frolik isn't that appealing
