Description

Easiest solution for 2 RFA's with no leverage who are considered to be roster players this year. DeAngelo & Lemieux sign qualifiers for 1 year, become RFA with Arb rights next season when more cap space opens & buyouts are less onerous. Buchnevich gets his bridge deal. Namestnikov trade is based solely on Ottawa's cap space, thin roster & 20 draft picks over next 2 drafts. Milano for Strome, both RFA next year, is cap dump (Strome)/ change of scenery for stagnating prospect (Milano)/ restocking roster for upcoming season (Columbus) & taking a flyer on former 1st round local kid (Rangers). No buyouts, Kreider re-signed or traded during season.

So Ottawa with $20mil in cap space and a roster that "boasts" forwards like Bobby Ryan, Artem Anisimov, Mikkel Boedker, J.G. Pageau & Anthony Duclair wouldn't have any interest in a versatile player like Namestnikov for 1 year to help bridge the gap while young forwards like Brady Tkachuk & Colin White continue their development? Maybe we change the 2nd to a 3rd or 4th in 2021 but the idea that Vlad has no value unless the Rangers "sweeten" the deal is ridiculous.

No they wouldn't. Ottawa has no need in Namestnikov. He won't be in Ottawa in 20-21. Their owner has no reason to save the Rangers cap problems or spend 4 mil or give up future draft picks.

It's perfectly fine for the Jackets. Strome may be overpaid and underdelivering, but there's still a chance he could be useful here. Milano? He desperately needs a change of scenery; if he takes off it won't be here.
