Agree. I am of the opinion the Aho offer sheet has hurt Marner's negotiating power here. Their careers respecticlvely have followed a similar track. Two key differences.....

1. At $8.5 million Aho plays centre.

2. At $8.5 million Aho had 10 fewer points, NOT playing with Tavares.

Seems to me that Bergevin should be on Dubas' Christmas card list now.

Point being this: Marner on a 5 year deal is at MOST that $8.5 million. If Dubas wants more term, I frankly don't see it clearing $10 million.

See now this sounds quite logical but wait for the Leafs haters. They will come here be unreasonable about what Marner is worth.
Hell...just today there were so many Montreal ACGM's where Habs fans claimed ridiculous numbers for Marner and none of them had sound reasoning behind it.

Been seeing it for months. Marner isn't Kucherov, and certainly isn't McJesus.

I suspect that Aho deal pretty much dictates Rattanen, Marner and Tkachuk (Matt maybe slightly more given his physical nature to boot).

So for Marner, I would see that $8.5 million over 5. If the term is 7 or 8 years, maybe close to $10 million..... but would be going over thag threshold now.
