I don't have to "check" the news . . . I've seen this rumor all week, just like I saw the rumor about Marleau going to the West Coast for a week. Since the Ottawa-Toronto trade doesn't make sense on two different levels, I'll forego accepting it as gospel until Tuesday.

Zaitsev to Ottawa actually makes a ton of sense, and I'd be shocked if it didn't happen after his bonus is paid.

Gudbranson May have been viable before the ceci trade but as for now we can’t spend 8m on two ****ty defencemen.

Imo there would be cheaper options if you want a physical D like Gudbranson. Chiarot, Pateryn, Emelin*, Fantenberg.

Fantenberg I am familiar with from his time here with the Kings. I've looked at Chiarot and Pateryn before. Gudbranson was just a new thought because I'm counting the hours until tomorrow. The rumored Ceci-for-Zaitsev exchange would rule him out for financial reasons, of course.

I guess we have to hope for a couple of free agent signings to go with Ceci and Liljegren. I'd hate to think Dubas trades Kadri unless he has another source for a #3C.

Dubas could also just not sign Ceci (if the rumor is true). Frees up some cap at least and your D is honestly better off without him than with him. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Leafs Land but regardless they still have a major hole at 1RD and that probably isn't getting filled unless they trade a core player... Or wait until next year to try and sign a free agent like Spurgeon or Pietrangelo (assuming neither are extended prior to next offseason).
