Description
First....gotta give credit to Dubas. Most leaf fans on here thought the ideal scenario would be a way to move Marleau and Zaitsev's contracts and that appears to be exactly what he's done.

Whether Brown is the sweetener in the deal or it's a pick (and the leafs then trade Brown for a similar pick)...I think it's a decent move.

I liked Zaitsev, just not his contract. I'd prefer to see Dubas get Ceci to a 1-yr deal which I think gets him to UFA status...but doesn't get the leafs locked in to another long-term deal with a questionable d-man.

Second...how does either side feel about Nylander for Dumba? I'm a Nylander fan and think we'll see him return to his usual high-flying form...so I'm not looking to just move him for the sake of it.

Dumba obviously had a season ending injury last December...so..for different reasons...both players are high-ceiling guys but coming into the 2019-20 season with some question marks. I just remember watching Dumba in the 2018 playoffs and he just seemed to be the most intense player on the ice for the Wild...a guy that could raise his game to the next level when everything is on the line. I think his style, position, and handedness is an ideal fit on the leaf blueline and minny gets a much needed injection of offence from Willy.

Third...I personally think a 3-yr bridge for Marner just north of $10m is where he ends up...but who knows...I think it'll get done soon though now that cap has been freed up.

Fourth....I'd like to see Dubas try and bring Perry in. Playing on a 3rd line with Kadri and Moore would be a pain in the ass for the opposition as all 3 of those guys play with edge but can contribute on offence as well.

Fifth...I like getting Hainsey back..especially if under $2m. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that guy's game and I like him as a mentor for Rosen and/or Dermott when he gets back.

Finally...a guy like Gabriel Bourque...if someone of his ilk can get signed for under $1m, is a good, cheaper replacement for Brown...a 4th line guy that can PK for you....but who knows...maybe they can get Ennis back at the same price point.

Can't remember where, but I know our beat writer said Fenton wasn't willing to move Spurgeon nor Dumba for Nylander this past fall. I think the Wild want to keep Dumba for all of the reasons you want him, he was a beast in the playoffs and has been our most electric player. I'd love Nylander, but if we trade a D it's likely Spurgeon or Brodin that goes, not Dumba. Problem is that Wild fans don't feel a piece like Kapanen is enough for a Spurgeon and Leafs fans feel Nylander is too much, with Dumba being pretty much a non-starter unless Matthews is on the table (which is really, really dumb for Toronto, of course).

so little text to waste space on an opinion not supported with any logic. It's cool if you disagree, but why bother posting other than to troll?

Gotta give Hainsey some credit for the year Rielly had. Would be dumb not to re-sign him, IMO at under $2m as I can't think of anyone better that can play the right side at the same price

makes sense....maybe a kadri for spurgeon based deal? I like Spurgeon, but the risk is there being a 1-yr rental and demanding who knows how much next year so I can't see the leafs biting unless it's a reasonable price.

Kadri doesn't fill a need, we need right shot players and Kadri is a left shot. Normally I wouldn't care, but Holy Hell our power play was so frustrating last year watching a left shot forward fumble the puck on what would have been a simple tap in for a right shot. The fact we have so many left shots is kind of a running joke among Wild fans... Value-wise, though, Kadri for Spurgeon is probably pretty ballpark. And that's understandable, giving up considerable assets is always a risk for a rental. That same beat writer thinks Spurgeon would be open to a sign and trade (if Fenton decides to trade him) so that might be an option of Dubas really wants him. Again, though, I don't think we'd settle for Kapanen in that case and I'd be pretty surprised if Dubas were willing to trade Nylander for Spurgeon.

ya...sounds like the only things that would make sense would be Nylander + for Dumba, Spurgeon + for Nylander...or Spurgeon for Kapanen + something minor...although I have to think Dubas is pretty happy getting Kapanen locked up for 3 years at $3.2m.

Realistically maybe just looking at a deadline type deal depending on where both teams are sitting early in 2020

Sorry to say this, Juice. Because we've had some nice exchanges in the past...

But is this you, Paul?

Totally forgot Kapanen was just signed, that was a great deal for the Leafs. Personally, I'd be all for something like Spurgeon and Greenway for Nylander and maybe the Leafs add a little bit. I really don't want to move Greenway, but we have way too many LW's and he might be the odd man out... He can also play center but he has only done that a little bit with the Wild.
